Should We Celebrate Carbon Dioxide? Written By: Patrick Moore, PhD, Global Warming Policy Foundation October 30, 2015

The following is a lecture delivered by Patrick Moore, formerly President of Greenpeace Int’l, to the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in London. He is a vocal critic of faulty science that supports climate-change caused by humans. Since he was a legend in the eco-movement, his current assessment is credible and authoritative.

Should We Celebrate Carbon Dioxide?

My Lords and Ladies, Ladies and Gentlemen.
Thank you for the opportunity to set out my views on climate change. As I have stated publicly on many occasions, there is no definitive scientific proof, through real-world observation, that carbon dioxide is responsible for any of the slight warming of the global climate that has occurred during the past 300 years, since the peak of the Little Ice Age. If there were such a proof through testing and replication it would have been written down for all to see.

Scientists Accidentally Found a Great New Way to Convert CO2 into Ethanol... Some of the greatest discoveries in history were found by accident. This could be one of them. by Aaron Brown

The opportunity this technology provides can be considered under the following scenarios: gas refineries emit CO2 to the tune of up to 40% of total production-throughput. This is a large source of CO2 and should be an ideal candidate for genuine environmentalist activists to pursue.
CO2 is emitted as a bi-product of combustion: heaters, boilers, internal combustion engines. This again is a large source of CO2 for conversion to ethanol - power stations, refineries, cars.
If converted at source of these fuel burners, the ethanol can be recycled back as additional fuel.
There is no longer a concern for CO2 caused global warming-ed.

Ref: http://www.thedrive.com/news/5613/scientists-accidentally-found-a-great-new-way-to-convert-co2-into-ethanol
Scientists in Tennessee have accidentally discovered a method to convert carbon dioxide, one of the most serious causes of climate change, into ethanol for use as a fuel for internal-combustion motors. This newfound ability to recycle the greenhouse gas could potentially help slow global warming.

“We discovered somewhat by accident that this material worked,” said Adam Rondinone, an author on the research group’s study journal, in a press release. “We were trying to study the first step of a proposed reaction when we realized that the catalyst was doing the entire reaction on its own.”
Researchers at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory found that by putting copper and carbon together to create nanospikes on silicon, exposing the matter to carbon dioxide dissolved in water, and electrifying it, the solution was transformed into a surprisingly-highly-concentrated blend of ethanol.

“By using common materials, but arranging them with nanotechnology, we figured out how to limit the side reactions and end up with the one thing that we want,” Rondinone said.

As Popular Mechanics notes, unlike other CO2-to-fuel converting processes, this method puts more common materials—carbon and copper—to use. Also, the final product is ethanol, which is already a relatively commonly-used fuel that has plenty of engines capable of burning it.

REQUIEM FOR A FAILED ELECTRICITY SYSTEM by Alan Moran

The trouble with wind
South Australia has on average over 40 per cent of its internally generated electricity derived from wind. This is one of the highest levels in the world for a load with a relatively small interconnection with other sources (the two interconnectors with Victoria have a capacity to supply about 20 per cent of the state's needs).
Wind/solar generation has two features that are of concern.

The first is that it is intrinsically high cost. As a mature technology, it will remain three times the cost of coal powered generation in Australia. It can only compete because it is subsidised by a regulatory charge on the consumer (thereby also not facing the same scrutiny if its support was through the Budget). It receives the subsidy whenever it runs, hence wind has an incentive to generate whenever it can, forcing established fossil fuel plant to be placed offline.

IS GAIA DEAD?

Obviously with ‘tongue in cheek’ Tim Blair of The Daily Telegraph (October 4, 2016) asked the question “Is Gaia Dead?” and went on to quote James Lovelock (now 97 years of age) who recently said “Climate alarmism is not remotely scientific”.

Of course Lovelock was not “the great planet-spirit’s creator” – it was a term he used which Geoffrey Dobbs thought was a mistake.     In Greek mythology Gaia was the mother goddess who presided over the earth. She was the mate of Uranus and the mother of the Titans and the Cyclopes.

Weren’t lefties telling us just a week or so ago that politics should be kept out of the climate debate?

Let’s see what those same lefties have to say about this press release from Southern Cross University, which is launching some kind of Greens-breeding program in NSW schools:

Dark Ages South Australia by James Reed

I remember the fun we had as kids when the power went out. Mum would fire up the hurricane lantern and we would cook baked beans on the woodstove. It was like indoor camping, Boy’s Own Annual, and we had a great time, a true adventure in our own house!
According to my brother in South Australia, who seems to have forgotten the good times which we had as kids, South Australia’s blackout from severe storms was “frightening.” There were trees uprooted and buildings destroyed, and extensive flood damage. As well, 80,000 lightning strikes were recorded.

There is apparently now a bit of a debate about the role that renewable energy had in the blackout and the vulnerabilities created from these sources due to rapid changes from output conditions and that renewables lack a reliable baseload generation. And there is the mystery as to why power lines north of Melrose toppled down while nearby trees did not. High voltage towers survived Queensland’s cyclones but severe winds in South Australia puts the whole place back to the dark ages. Please explain.

Some Thoughts on the Terms of Reference for a Royal Commission into the Financial Sector by Ken Grundy

Our organisation is fortunate to have many economically and financially literate people, active in social credit. Thus, we should begin work on a submission to be made to the royal commission into the Financial system, if this ever sees the light of day. At present, Turnbull opposes it, but the Labor party is championing the idea. Back in August Shorten sent a letter to Turnbull outlining some of the terms of reference, or issues, which would need to be examined. These include:

1.    The extent of illegal and unethical practices within Australian financial services.
2.    Do Australian financial services adequately meet their duty of care to customers?
3.    How does the ethical, cultural standards and business practices of Australian financial services impact on the behaviour and practices of these institutions?
4.    Is Australia’s regulatory framework adequate to police illegal and unethical behaviour in the Australian financial services institutions?
5.    How does Australian experience in all of the above compare or contrast to international experience?
6.    Any other relevant issues.

An Unstable Electrical System from JoNova's Website

StopThese Things tells us that they hear that SA grid managers are running the system at 220V, not 230V (like the rest of Australia) in order to cope with the fluxes from wind power. It would be good to get confirmation of that. In November 2015 after a large blackout in South Australia, StopTheseThings predicted that after the coal plant was shut in April 2016, there would be statewide blackouts:

It’s also to be borne in mind that these 110,000 homes and businesses were plunged into darkness at a time when SA’s Northern and Playford coal-fired plants at Port Augusta (with a combined capacity of 784 MW) were still happily chugging away.
The owner of Port Augusta’s plants, Alinta has already signalled that it will close them in April 2016, due to the market distortions caused by the massive subsidies to wind power set up under the Large-Scale RET (renewable energy targets). If it does, South Australians can expect statewide blackouts with the kind of regularity that you’d be hard pressed to find outside of sub-Saharan Africa.

The South Australian black out — A grid on the edge

There were warnings that renewables made it vulnerable: from JoNova's Website
Australians are going to be talking about this for weeks. Indeed, the SA Blackout is the stuff of legends.
The Greens are blaming coal (what else?) for causing bad storms and blackouts. Forget that Queensland gets hit with cyclones all the time and the whole state grid doesn’t break. Some greenies are also raging against “the politicization” of the storms. Yes, Indeedy. Go tell that to Will Steffen.

We are not being told the whole story. We do know that South Australia has the highest emphasis on renewables in the world. It also has a fragile electricity network, and wild price spikes to boot http://joannenova.com.au/2016/07/wind-power-sucks-money-and-electricity-in-south-australia/. (Coincidence?)
The death of a few transmission towers should not knock out a whole state, nor should it take so long to recover from.

Malcolm Roberts, a polished punchy senate speech

taken from JoNova's website:
In his maiden speech as a new Senator, Malcolm Roberts looks sharp, stands tall, and fires his words precisely, and articulately. He oozes determination.

He’s put in long hours for years to be there and he knows exactly why he’s there. James Jeffrey in The Australian described it as “impassioned”, delivered with “the pyrotechnic power of his larynx”:

RURAL AFFAIRS
Crisis in dairy industry escalates to new level by Patrick J. Byrne

http://newsweekly.com.au/article.php?id=57411

A perfect storm has hit the dairy industry – deregulation of dairy and water, falling export prices, drought, the Murray-Darling Basin Plan, duopoly supermarket price wars, debt and issues of corporate governance.
In Victoria, a rural tragedy is unfolding as herds of cattle are going from dairy farms to saleyards to abattoirs.
While nature and global markets are beyond the control of farmers and processors, some of the factors behind the crisis are man made, and similar problems are facing other industries across the Murray-Darling Basin.

Tidal Power In The Shetlands by Paul Homewood

http://renews.biz/101854/first-power-at-shetland-tidal-array/

A Scottish energy company’s tidal turbine system has become the first in the world to deliver electricity to the national grid.
Nova Innovation said its Shetland Isles project marks a big step forward in using tidal energy as a reliable source of renewable power.
The firm installed its first turbine in the Bluemull Sound earlier this year, with the device generating to full power across all tidal conditions.
A second turbine was installed this month to work alongside the first.

The company’s eventual goal is to have large number of turbines connected in an "array".
Simon Forrest, managing director of Nova Innovation said:
"We are absolutely delighted to be the first company in the world to deploy a fully operational tidal array."
He added: "Deploying the second turbine truly sets us apart and showcases our technology.
"I would like to thank all our staff, partners and suppliers for helping to make our vision a reality."

Climate Science is NOT Settled

a Statement by Viv Forbes, Founding Secretary of “Clexit” (Climate Exit)
29 August 2016
For at least a decade we have been told by the UN/IPCC, by most government media and officials, by many politicians, and by the Green “charities” and their media friends that “the science is settled”. We are lectured by Hollywood stars, failed politicians and billionaire speculators that anyone who opposes the World War on Carbon Dioxide is ignorant, mischievous or supporting some hidden vested interest. We endure calls for an end to free speech for climate sceptics, smearing with derogatory terms like “denier”, and even aggressive punishments like dismissal and legal action against sceptics for speaking out. We notice the sudden and unexplained denial of pre-booked sceptic conference facilities and the steadfast refusal of alarmists to debate facts and issues.

Why are they so afraid of words? Surely this is a sign that their facts are shonky and their arguments are feeble? They fear they are losing the confidence of the public.

The tide is turning, and informed opposition is growing. It is time for the thinking media to give sceptical evidence and conclusions a fair go in the court of public opinion.

In a short time with no costly international meetings and very little publicity, Clexit has gathered the support of over 115 members in 20 countries. Please look at the list of Foundation Members and countries: http://clexit.net/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/clexit-members.pdf

Look at the skills, qualifications, experience and wisdom of our founding members; and the many other well-qualified dissenters listed at the end. The science is clearly not settled.

This global warming alarm started with UN sponsored groups such as the IPCC. But Clexit has members who were official IPCC reviewers but they dissented from the final public IPCC reports which were prepared by political appointees.

The climate alarm rests totally on computerised models of atmospheric physics. But Clexit has highly qualified meteorologists, physicists, astro-physicists, radiation experts, climate modellers and long-range forecasters who reject the science, maths, assumptions and forecasts of the greenhouse-driven computer models.

We are told that Earth’s climate is controlled by the gradual increase of a tiny trace of one colourless gas in the atmosphere. But Clexit has specialists who can show that the warm and cold currents in the deep and extensive oceans, the variable water vapour in the atmosphere and Earth’s changing cover of ice, snow and clouds have far more effect on weather and climate than carbon dioxide.

We are told that carbon dioxide is a pollutant. But Clexit has organic chemists, biologists, physicians, naturalists, graziers, foresters and farmers who know that extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is very beneficial for Earth’s biosphere – deserts are contracting, bush and forests are expanding, and crop yields are up.

We are told that sea levels are rising alarmingly. But Clexit has experts on sea level history and measurement who can prove that there is nothing unusual or alarming about current fluctuations in sea levels.

We are told that today’s climate is extreme and unusual. But Clexit has geologists and geographers who have studied eons of climate history via ice cores, stratigraphy, paleontology, deep-sea drilling, historical records, glaciers, ice sheets and landscapes and who say that climate change is normal and today’s climate is not extreme or unusual.

We are told to fear the coming global warming. But Clexit has geologists and researchers who have studied the cycles of the ice ages and the climate effects of the Milankovitch cycles in Earth’s orbit – obliquity, eccentricity and precession. They say we have passed the peak of this modern warm era and the long-term trend is now towards global cooling. We will still have short-term periods of hot and extreme weather, and some heat records may still be broken, but the 1,000 year climate averages are trending down towards the next glacial epoch of the Pleistocene Ice Age.

We are told repeatedly that the Great Barrier Reef is doomed by dangers that change annually – rising seas, river sediments, warm seas, ocean acidity, fertiliser run-off, coal port development, over-fishing or marauding star-fish. But Clexit has qualified members who have studied oceanography and ancient and modern corals and report that the Reef is healthy, and corals have survived far more dramatic changes in sea levels and climate in the past.

Solar cycles get no consideration in the IPCC climate models but Clexit has astro-physicists and long range weather forecasters who have demonstrated that solar and lunar cycles have big effects on Earth’s climate and weather cycles. In addition, while billions of dollars are spent fruitlessly on failed climate models and endless climate conferences, little is known about the strings of undersea volcanoes or how much geothermal heat is released from Earth’s molten interior during orogenic upheavals.

We are told that we must embrace green energy. But Clexit has power engineers and logistics experts who say that wind and solar can never run modern industrial societies, modern transport or big cities. Such a policy is a recipe for blackouts and starvation. Clexit also has naturalists and conservationists who see more harm than good in extensive wind, solar and bio-fuel developments.

Finally, we are told that to save the world we need to hand powerful taxing and regulating powers to unelected officials of the United Nations. But Clexit has politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen, columnists, lawyers, army officers and bloggers who see that this political agenda will destroy the freedoms we cherish.

Many Clexit members have held very senior positions in research, industry or academia but no longer have sensitive positions, careers or incomes to protect, so are free to express honest opinions, which they have done by supporting “Clexit”.

We ask the media to give our soundly-based dissenting conclusions a fair hearing – there are two sides to most stories, but only one side is being aired.

The Clexit initiative was launched with no budget, promises or funds. So, unlike the alarmists with an agenda, those receiving rivers of government funds and those posing as tax-exempt charities, we cannot afford massive advertising costs.

We hope, in the interests of fair play, you see fit to give our valid concerns some space in the free media.

Note: The first informal meeting of many Clexit members will take place in London on Sept 8/9, 2016 at this conference (whose first booked venue was suddenly withdrawn):
https://geoethic.com/london-conference-2016/

Disclosure: The formation of Clexit was not prompted or supported by any industry, corporation, group or lobby nor have they had any say in our statements or conclusions.

The “Trump-Apocalypse” Cometh by Chris Knight

The “Trump apocalypse” is a term I use to describe what will happen when Hillary Clinton is inevitably elected president of the United States in November, and the political fallout that will come from it.
There are, of course many who believe that Trump will triumph, such as exhibited by a recent turnabout by former critic Brad Thor (“Rethinking the #NeverTrump Position,” August 16, 2016, at http://hotair.com/archives/2016/08/16/brad-thor-rethinking-the-nevertrump-position/.)
Hillary is a “cancer drug” which will kill the US; the Trump-drug may also kill the US, but it may also slow the cancer down.

David Cole at Taki Mag (“My God, What if He Loses?” August 18, 2016, at http://takimag.com/article/my_god_what_if_he_loses_david_cole/print#axzz4I0higTGG0,  expresses doubt that Trump could win. He interviews some Alternative thinkers, who are also concerned. The polls for Trump look bad, Cole argues, and the polls are usually right. Yes, sure, like they were right about Brexit; all polls indicated a defeat, and look where that went. And not all polls, if any, can be trusted at all, indicate that Trump is losing.

Is There Really a Grand Conspiracy to Kill All of Us Off? by Peter West

I will let you in on a little secret, since there is just you and me and no-one else listening in – I have a morbid interest in the so-called grand conspiracy theory that the super-elites are planning to wipe out most of the human race. I, of course, don’t believe this, but the case has been put by excited folk on the internet. Usually they take out of context the words of high-flyers such as Bill Gates, about the need to reduce human population numbers, and say that he is advocating some plan of high tech genocide, probably using vaccines: https://archive.org/details/WipeOutHumans-BillGates-VaccinesArebestWayToDepopulatePlanet.

I grant, as my mother has documented in article after article at this site, that vaccines have negative consequences. But I seriously doubt whether anyone attempting to genocide the world would choose such a slow method, where genetically engineered diseases, such as a new strain of super-small pox, would take out 95 percent of humanity overnight.
So, I’m sorry; I dislike Bill Gates as much as the next man and his dog, but I just don’t follow my fellow conspiracy theorists in seeing him pursuing that agenda.

More Good News, Maybe about Fighting Cancer by Mrs. Vera West

Human trials are under way, testing an extract from the blushwood berries found in Australian rainforests, which may prove to have strong anti-cancer potential: https://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/32374777/cancer-fighting-berry-in-australian-rainforests/#page1.

The chemical is known as EBC-46, which when injected into subject generates an immune response leading to the white blood cells targeting the cancer and destroying it. Treatments in animal models have included mast cell tumours, melanomas, squamous cell carcinomas, adenocarcinomas, soft tissue sarcomas, myxosarcomas, nasosinal facial ulcerations and equine sarcoids.
For those with a biochemical background, and a few chemistry kits lying around, here is the chemical basis of EBC-46:
I don’t know what this means, but it is certainly a pretty pattern, that would look good on the bathroom tiles!

The Waves of Fukushima by Brian Simpson

The Fukushima nuclear reactor disaster, Japan, may well prove to be a fitting symbol of the plight of the West in late Asianised postmodernity. As reported by Collapse News.com, “From Tiny Sardines, to Behemoth Whales, Fukushima is Claiming Thousands of Lives Off the West Coast,” radioactive waste is causing destruction to marine life on the West coast of the United States.
The sardine population has crashed, threatening populations of higher feeding fish. Whales and dolphins have begun migrating out of season.

Radioactive water has been reaching the West coast since march 2011, but the authorities kept the public in the dark about this for months. At present there is at least 130 tons of “hot” fuel debris at the bottom of the vessel of No. 2 reactor, and it will not be removed until 2021.
Until then, thousands of tons of radioactive water will continue to pour into the oceans, endangering our common future: https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/apr/13/is-it-safe-to-dump-fukushima-waste-into-the-sea.

ONE NATION'S CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY

Affordable Energy - Climate Science

WHAT IS THE CLIMATE CHANGE AGENDA?

Climate change has and will continue to be used as a political agenda by politicians and self interest groups or individuals for their own gain. We cannot allow scare mongering by people such as Tim Flannery, who make outlandish statements and are not held accountable. Climate change should not be about making money for a lot of people and giving scientists money. Lets know the facts and scientific evidence to make a well informed decision as to how best to look after our environment.

Paying a carbon tax or an Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) is not going to wave a magic wand and stop nature changing the climate change. It will only make it harder for Australian families and businesses to make ends meet. We can address real environmental issues with legislation. Hitting struggling families and businesses with another tax has been designed to make some people a lot of money. Don't allow yourself to be misled.
