I am just a simple man, and perhaps writing about economic issues that affect our very existence should be left to the experts. But, wait, isn’t that centralism too, and if that is bad in politics, then why not knowledge? Most politicians live in a green fantasy-land where facts and numbers don’t count.

They dream up fanciful figures for proposed cuts to industrial and agricultural emissions without any understanding of the remorseless growth of population.

The Australian government has set a target to reduce Australia's greenhouse gas emissions by 27% from 2005 levels by 2030, just 11 years away. The ALP opposition plans to cut emissions by a staggering 45% by 2030.

Australia’s population is growing at 1.7% per year (higher than most other developed countries). At this growth rate, population will increase by about 50% from 2005 levels by 2030.

If we did NOTHING about cutting emissions, and the economy stood still, the continuing rise in population will ensure that emissions (and economic activity) per head of population will fall by 30% from 2005 levels by 2030.

Who among us is volunteering to use 30% less food, petrol, gas and electricity than we used in 2005 solely because of population growth? Who is promising to abolish the baby bonus and cut our intake of migrants, refugees, tourists and foreign students by 30%?

And of those prepared to make these sacrifices, who is volunteering to meet even the modest government cuts proposed for 2030 which will require us to use 50% less food, petrol, gas and electricity per capita than we used in 2005? The Green/ALP cuts would take us back to the middle ages.

We have just three choices – reduce population growth; abolish emissions targets; or welcome creeping poverty.

There is a fourth choice – eject all climate fools from the political stables in Canberra.

Their proposed emissions targets will harm the natural environment by splattering the land with subsidised wind and solar monstrosities. They will also divert land from producing food to producing ethanol fuel for cars, and they will force poor people into poverty with soaring electricity prices.

But they will have no measurable effect on climate.

To The Australian        Graham Richardson states that he would "never allow Holocaust-deniers to peddle their nonsense" ("Decorum in forum aids free speech", 13/5). He believes in limited speech, not free speech. He also says that he will vote Labor until the day he dies. Yes, the two things go together. Anyone voting Greens-Labor in the coming elections either (like Richardson) undervalues the fundamental importance of genuine free speech to our traditional Australian way of life or is ignorant of the issues involved. Once you allow the principle of intellectual freedom to be a little eroded, you open the door to further erosions and before you know it you live under tyranny. Perhaps Richardson could explain why "nonsense" needs to be stopped by legal sanctions. It's overkill, surely!

To The Age        It is good news for the principle of genuine representative government that Nigel Farage's Brexit Party is doing so well in the UK ("Farage tops Tories in British poll", 13/5). First the Conservative Party and then a majority of MPs in the House of Commons have defied the popular wish for Britain to leave the dictatorial European Union, a wish shown clearly in the 2016 referendum verdict. The British people would be fools to take this dishonourable behaviour lying down. Let us hope that Farage is right that "millions of Britons will desert the two main parties" if PM Theresa May and Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn "reach a consensus", because any such agreement would be a betrayal of the majority will and an affront to democracy. It would be a Brexit in name only.

To The Australian        The human rights case being pursued by a group of Torres Strait Islanders fills me with misgivings ("Mabo inspires climate change", 14/5). I don't want Australia to be ruled by the UNO on any matter at all, as the organisation has a long history of unacceptable activity. It's a socialist monster which some powerful interests would like to see gradually become a world government - that is, a world tyranny. My other concern is that, as with the extraordinarily protracted campaign to achieve "indigenous constitutional recognition", our Aboriginal people are being used by wealthy and powerful groups for purposes that do not really have the interests of this minority at heart at all.

     Greens want to replace ancient grasslands and modern croplands with trees. They worship eucalypt weeds while chipping away at the growing space for priceless plants like Mitchell grass, saltbush, mulga, buffel grass, lucerne, wheat, barley, oats, and macadamia. So we swap grassland, pastures, orchards and paddocks feeding cattle, sheep, people and kangaroos for green-sponsored carbon forests, scrub and woody weeds harbouring wild dogs, wild pigs, wild cats, possums, wait-a-while, rubber vine and lantana. In this brave new world, shall we chuck another possum on the barbie?

     Make sure LNP controls the House of Representatives. Number all squares, put all Greens last and ALP second last. Beware of “Independents” – they may be turncoats like Windsor and Oakshott a while back. Make sure neither ALP/Greens nor LNP control the Senate. Pick sensible minor parties and give them your first vote. Keep numbering until you get to the LNP so your vote does not expire. Put Greens dead last on every ballot paper and ALP just above them. On the Senate keep numbering until you reach the LNP and give no votes to ALP/Greens. The main aim of Saltbush is to change the climate of public opinion. Politicians are driven by public opinion, which drives voting behaviour. So we need to change public opinion. It only needs a couple of percent of people to switch, and politicians will notice, and trim their sails to the new wind.

     We can only do that if we can communicate subversive ideas as widely as possible among opinion leaders, media and the public. In an attempt to change public opinions we have been releasing (every day) statements designed to dramatise and highlight the stupidity of the climate/energy policies or all major parties. To The Australian        Janet Albrechtsen once again efficiently defends our traditional liberty ("Greens plan an arrow to the heart of free speech", 15/5). She is right that freedom of the press is "a core value in a liberal democracy" and that the term "hate speech" is "a highly subjective, legal weapon to be aimed at those who say things you hate." The warnings of George Orwell and Alexander Solzhenitsyn against incipient tyranny masquerading as idealistic "social justice" remain grimly relevant for us as the possibility of an ALP-Greens government looms. The other great deprivation that threatens to follow is a loss of the integrity of our constitution, with attacks on our monarchy that limits the powers of politicians and political parties, together with unsoundly based and divisive ethnic favouritism behind the push for "indigenous constitutional recognition." Will Australia be foolish enough to cross this new   historical Rubicon on May 18?

To The Age        Ross Gittins provides an analysis of the differences between the Coalition and Labor that is slanted to attract more votes to Labor ("A real choice this election", 15/5). Just look at this sentence of his: "Labor wants to make the well-off (including the well-off retired) pay more tax, while using the proceeds to increase government spending on health, education, childcare and much else." And this phrase: "The biggest redistribution of income from high income earners to low and middle income earners we've seen in ages." And his conclusion: "Will your choice be aimed at benefiting yourself and your family, or the wider community and 'those less fortunate than ourselves'?" Not a word about the more important contrast between the major parties: Australia to remain under the Coalition a free nation (well, relatively, at least) or to become (thanks to an ALP-Greens alliance) a state-controlled socialist community on the way to communist tyranny.
