They were sent off to a quarantine in hospital, separated during this time. Ms Zwalf took her child while Maaike did the same, and all the while heavily pregnant. To make matters more complicated, the transgender dad also has cystic fibrosis. He required a multidisciplinary team of medical experts to ensure the safe delivery of the child back in March. However, in a world-first, he required no medical assistance during the birth. Maaike stopped taking hormones during the pregnancy and was able to “chest feed” after the baby was born. The family’s record-breaking birth is now the focus of research by the Infectious Diseases Department at the Sunshine Coast University.”

“New York City Police arrested the 20-year-old daughter of a wealthy Upper East Side family for causing property damage in a riot organized by an Antifa-affiliated and a black supremacist group in the city on Friday.      Having had poor teeth all my life, most of which are now gone, I have also had terrible experiences with dentists. There has been the wrong advice on brushing which led to gum recession, due to the mania of cleaning, which in the day involved hard tooth brushes, but they always put it down to gum disease, with no real evidence only opinion, when my gums have seldom bled. I have had a dentist notice a decay, say it will demineralise, then face a tooth abscess in a few weeks’ time. Teeth have been filled which should have been pulled because of their insane conservative “save all teeth” ideology, leading to killer abscesses that I had to endure, always on a long weekend. I have waited in the dental surgery to get such teeth pulled for hours, while rich clients got a clean.      It may be a psychological phobia, but I now hate dentists. I just get teeth pulled if I can find a dentist to do it, most won’t, wanting to do massively expensive root canal treatment, which may not work for people like me with calcification of the canals. Thus, while I am over 70, with one last wisdom tooth a few months back, that constantly went to abscess (treated with antibiotics), I had trouble getting an extraction, and had to take a GP’s letter with me to get someone to pull it. “Victoria police is facing criticism for its arrest of a 28-year-old pregnant woman in her Ballarat home on Wednesday over a Facebook post, with the Victorian Bar labelling it “disproportionate”. The criticism comes after the assistant police commissioner, Luke Cornelius, defended the arrest, saying officers acted “reasonably”. Cornelius admitted that the arrest of a pregnant woman made for “terrible optics”, but defended the heavy-handed approach, warning that hundreds of officers would be deployed to make arrests on the weekend. “Baltimore police have confirmed they’re probing a brutal attack on a white man hit in the head with a brick. The attacker appeared to have accomplices filming and laughing. However, no victim has come forward, local media report. The victim was hit in the head in the Sharp-Leadenhall neighborhood of south Baltimore on Sunday evening, police told local media, affirming the content of a disturbing video that went viral on Sunday. The victim’s assault was filmed by a group who seemed to be in league with the attacker, shooting video from across the street and laughing uproariously as the assailant’s brick connected with his quarry’s skull. The clip was originally posted to Instagram by user traysavage_, who appeared to be glorifying the assault and casting it in racial terms. “YOUNG MAN YOU GOT KNOCKED TF OUT,” he wrote, in between crying-laughing emojis. “B**CH YOU BET[TER] NOT RUN,” the post continued, adding the hashtag #WhiteLivesDoNotMatter before the more familiar #BlackLivesMatter. The victim appeared to be white and the attacker black, though neither’s faces were visible in the footage that has gone viral on social media. According to the person who called in the assault to police, the two men had an argument and the victim walked away. The attacker then reportedly picked up two bricks and ran to catch up with his prey, surprising him with an attack from behind. It’s not clear whether the victim knew his assailant before their altercation, and all police found when they turned up on the scene was a pool of blood. The attacker fled the scene after incapacitating his victim, and by some reports the victim merely got up and walked away – though it’s hard to imagine how, given the blow he sustained. Residents of Baltimore and strangers alike lamented this kind of violence was common.”

     This is interesting, discussing the concept of hypernormalism, which for some odd reason reminds me of some sort of over-reactive thyroid disease, but I am probably wrong about that one, having an under-reactive thyroid that makes me the opposite of the Incredible Hulk, the Forgettable Sulk. “Documentary filmmaker and BBC journalist Adam Curtis has developed a cult following for his eccentric films that combine BBC archival footage into artistic montages combined with dark narratives that create a unique storytelling experience that’s both journalistic and entertaining. His latest film, “HyperNormalisation,” came out in 2016 and is perhaps even more apropos now, as many have the feeling that they’re waking up to an unprecedented, and unreal, world anew each and every day — and so-called fake news is all around. The term “HyperNormalisation” was coined by Alexei Yurchak, a Russian historian. In an interview with The Economist, Curtis explained that it’s used to describe the feeling that comes with accepting total fakeness as normal. Yurchak had used it in relation to living in the Soviet Union during the 1980s, but Curtis used it in response to living in the present-day U.S. and Europe. “Lawmakers in California are setting up a task force intended to develop a plan on recommending reparations for African Americans in the state, and examining what that process might look like. The state senate voted 33-3 on Saturday to support the creation of a nine-member commission to develop a reparations plan. The measure will still need to pass a final vote in the Assembly, but an overwhelming majority of the Assembly members are expected to be in favor of the bill. Democratic Sen. Holly Mitchell of Los Angeles said that Black people still face significant challenges from the aftermath of slavery. “Let’s be clear: Chattel slavery, both in California and across our nation, birthed a legacy of racial harm and inequity that continues to impact the conditions of Black life in California,” Mitchell said, according to the Associated Press. Mitchell pointed to disproportionate rates of poverty, incarceration, homelessness, and health risks for African Americans as proof of the unequal conditions that remain from the times of slavery. California was technically a free state long before many of the others, but the bill’s supporters say there were still many structural barriers that were intentionally set up in the state to reinforce a racial caste system, and many of these barriers still exist today. If the bill passes, the new task force will conduct a detailed study into how the state was affected by slavery and they will make recommendations to the legislature based on their findings by July 2023. Their recommendations will include who is entitled to reparations, how much they should get, and what form the payment should come in.
