Hey, that’s the sort of paranoid conspiratorial title readers have come to expect, and love, from me. But, the title is only a paraphrase of “Aussie Unis Boost Chinese Military,” The Weekend Australian, June 10-11, 2017, p.1.
     The story here is universities are supplying the Chinese military with technological leadership and knowledge which China needs for advanced military and industry superiority. The claims have been made by public intellectual Clive Hamilton. Here is how just some of this works, courtesy of your tax payer’s dollars, according to The Australian:

“For instance, last year the ARC awarded a $400,000 grant to Adelaide University for a research partnership with the Beijing Institute of Aeronautical Materials, which is part of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China. Government-owned AVIC is the major supplier of military aircraft to the People’s Liberation Army Air Force.
As Mr Hamilton and Mr Joske say, “when the PLA unveiled its first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, it was loaded with Shenyang J-15 fighter jets built by AVIC”.
The Adelaide University project is intended to help develop materials and devices that, the ARC’s proposal says, “are comfortable, quiet and energy-efficient” for use in aircraft, motor vehicles and ships. The authors point out: “It will also enhance the PLA Air Force’s capacity to improve the performance of its most sophisticated warplanes.”

     Space cadets will face the onslaught of cosmic rays once in space, outside of the protective magnetic shield of the Earth.      We are all going to stay on this planet and see how it all pans out. No doubt, everything will come out in the wash, one way of another.

     Civil Liberties Australia argues that Australia is not a Christian country, but Kevin Donnelly disagrees (‘We are a Christian nation’, 15/6). Each party describes Australia in the way it wishes to see it;  but the truth is that we look a bit like the ‘muddle’ that E. M. Forster saw India as being a century ago and later described in ‘A Passage to India’.

     What kind of nation should we aim to be? My answer is that we should seek to be a people who are collectively aware of the numinous and the mysterious. That is where we should primarily locate the sacred, not in theology or past works of art or acts of charity (as Donnelly does).
     He wants to resuscitate a mode of Christianity that appears to be in slow terminal decline. Liberty Australia thinks to dance on its grave. Neither approach will lead to a fruitful tomorrow. Only a fresh visioning of the ‘worlds beyond’ will be sufficient.

     Alt Right intellectual F. Roger Devlin, penned an important essay published in The Occidental Quarterly in Summer 2006: “Sexual Utopia in Power.” In 2015, the essay was expanded into a 192 page book, and published by Alt Right publishing company, Counter-Currents: https://www.counter-currents.com/sexual-utopia-in-power/. The book traces the breakdown of morality and sexual roles which began in the 1960s, and the disaster which it has brought for social life today.

     All of this is not new to us, but Devlin goes further, challenging the typical conservative response to the crisis, which strangely has much in common with feminism in blaming men. Instead, Devlin looks at the sins of women, such as female hypergamy (mating up), infidelity, narcissism and deceptiveness. This is unusual because conservatives seem to have swallowed hook, line and sinker, the feminist world view, that women can do no wrong. Men are fearful to call out women, and Trump’s dealings with various female journalists is an example of this. I have written about this previously, pointing out that it shatters the standard hypothesis that mankind arose in Africa, and also that Europeans were a late arrival on the evolutionary scene, and consequently must be backward.

     Now there is news which further challenges the received hypothesis about human origins, with fossils found in Morocco being regarded by some scientists as the oldest Homo sapiens fossils, at 350,000 years old. If this proves to be so, and the fossils are genuinely Homo sapiens, and some scientists, to be expected doubt this, this shoots down the idea that humans are only 100,000 years old, and that that is an inadequate time for racial characteristics to develop.
I look forward to more sacred cows in human prehistory being slaughted in the time to come.

    I am not in the book advertising business, but I think there is an answer to the question raised by Eleanor Agnew in Back to the Land (see: http://energyskeptic.com/2011/why-back-to-the-land-failed/), about why the back to the land movement in the 1970s failed. Sure, these people from white affluent families were not ready for the hard toil of farm life and romanticised it, but beyond all else, they were not educated about the ways of the rural. It is best to have grown up in a rural environment to really know what it is like to fight a bushfire, or combat flood, but obtaining knowledge from books is a great help. This was not done in the past, so the movement failed.
    As well, as this was mainly a revolt by white affluent people against modernity, they always had the choice of returning to jobs. But, that choice has now gone, so there may be no more option but to succeed in an alternative lifestyle, or starve.      Marc Randazza , a Las Vegas-based lawyer who  specialises  in free-speech cases, is representing the publisher of a leading neo-Nazi website, Andrew Anglin. Anglin is being  sued for allegedly  orchestrating an anti-Semitic online trolling campaign against a Montana Jewish  family. The mainstream press give no reason for why he chose this particular family to “harass,” but his website gives his point of view. I should add that I do not support the Anglin site, and what he represents, and see  many of his articles as alarming and fanatical. But, as a free speech advocate I still have an interest in the case, which raises fascinating points of law.

(Own report) - On her trip to Argentina and Mexico last week, Chancellor Angela Merkel sought to use the tensions between US President Donald Trump and Latin America to strengthen German influence on the subcontinent, by expanding business relations. This was even reinforced, when Chancellor Merkel publicly criticized the wall project. The coup had the desired effect, despite the fact that the EU - under German pressure - is surrounding itself with wall-like border fortifications. The German effort to expand its Latin American influence is also directed at China.

     Bolt was cowardly attacked from behind by one thug, who threw some substance onto him, and then a second low-life joined the attack, hurling Bolt into tables and chairs.      God does not write books, nor does he dictate them word for word through human intermediaries. This applies to the Bible as well as the Koran.  So merely advocating metaphorical rather than literal interpretation (Letters, 8/6) is not sufficient to deal with the current religion-based political crisis.

     On the other hand both these holy books have many passages that are profound and beautiful, which may well be the result of exceptional inspiration. Thus, asserting, as does Jim Campbell (8/6), that ‘there are no arguable circumstances’ under which the Koran should ‘play a role in shaping the character of any Australian citizen’ is an unhelpful and extremist approach.
     Islam itself contains the solution in its doctrine of shirk - that nothing in creation can be equated to God. Muslims generally need to accept that this applies to their prophet, their book and their tradition. Ditto for Christians.

to THE AGE
     Fred Chaney is idealistic but not realistic (‘Don’t fear the T-word’, 8/6). All advocacy of a treaty between our Aboriginals and other Australians implicitly means support for an eventual partition of the continent into two nations.  Australia has already moved too far in that direction with the Mabo judgment, plucked out of the air by judicial adventurism, and subsequent land agreements with, as Chaney notes, ‘peoples, collectives, not individual Aboriginal people’.

     Constitutionally we need to treat all Australians as equal, for reasons of equity, national unity, social stability and political security in dealing with the rather threatening world situation that is developing.  Our governments are right to seek to improve Aboriginal welfare - the benefiting of Aboriginal individuals seen as disadvantaged Australian citizens.
