To The Australian        In present debate about "white supremacism" I haven't seen use of the phrase "kith and kin". Perhaps this is because it embodies a conviction (currently politically incorrect) that it is natural and laudable for human beings in general to prefer to live among folk of their own ethnicity - and to fear historical change that threatens to make them minorities in their own homelands. Holding such an attitude does not necessarily involve adherence to any doctrine of ethnic supremacism. Thus, Jennifer Oriel may be too hasty ("We need the truth to understand", 25/3) in dismissing "ethnicity-based nationhood" and "ethno-nationalism". Such a policy can be followed without engagement in "the dehumanisation" of people of other ethnicities. In particular, white people around the world are perfectly entitled to band together to protect their interests as much as is reasonable.

To The Age        Nicole Hemmer shows no sympathy for the interests of white people ("'White power' a growing danger", 25/3) and thus provides a distorted picture of what white political activists around the world are on about. By no means all of them are advocates of "violent white supremacy". What many of them are concerned about is the disempowerment of their group that is happening, due to falling birth rates and the global movement of folk of other ethnicities; and they have legitimate grounds for fearing that their welfare is at stake. It is reasonable for people in general to prefer to live among folk of their own ethnicity and to fear political loss of their homelands and group identity.

To The Australian        In all the many words of your front page story ("PM plea: desert One Nation", 27/3) one looks in vain for sound arguments in favour of the Coalition as against One Nation. The minor party has a history of personnel acting foolishly and quarrelling among themselves, which does not imbue a thoughtful conservative with confidence in it. On the other hand, the Coalition, since the deposition of Tony Abbott as PM, has shown too many signs of weaselling compromise with principle. For example, the PM's offer to slightly lower our immigration intake is quite inadequate and suggests a secret kowtowing to powerful interests behind the scenes. Most Australians know in their hearts that we must drastically lower intake or face a severe loss of the quality of life for all except a wealthy minority. Thus there are sound arguments for ignoring the PM's plea and casting a primary vote, if not for One Nation, then for another right-wing party such as Cory Bernardi's Conservatives or the Christian Democratic Party.

To The Age        Chris Uhlmann is only half right in his assertion that "everyone knows something is broken but no one knows how to fix it." (Comment, 27/3). Yes, there is a current "loss of faith in many of the institutions that anchored our society" and yes, the assurance of religion hitherto provided by the churches is "the most profound loss". Once that source of guidance is lost to a people, you have "the blind leading the blind" until they both "fall into the pit". However, the divine One, the creator and sustainer of the universe, honoured in all sacred traditions, is still here now; and reconnection is by no means impossible. In the last century or so a significant number of great men have pointed the way, including P. D. Ouspensky, Rene Guenon, T. S. Eliot and R. A. Schwaller de Lubicz. Even better, there has been the testimony of sages such as Sri Ramana Maharshi and Sheikh Alawi. Tradition around the world tells that humanity is never left without prophets. What is needed is for more of us to listen to them.
