While returning to Darwin, the pair encountered Kuru south of Betano and it was decided by Castlemaine's commanding officer—as the senior officer—that Armidale and Kuru should make for Betano. The two ships took different routes to Betano, during which both vessels came under aerial assault. During a subsequent confrontation with thirteen Japanese aircraft on 1 December, Armidale was struck by two torpedoes and a bomb, and began to sink; the order to abandon ship was given. After helping to free a life-raft, Sheean was wounded by two bullets. He made his way to the aft Oerlikon 20 mm cannon and began to fire on the Japanese aircraft to protect those in the water. Sheean managed to shoot down one of the Japanese bombers, but was killed when Armidale sank. Many of the survivors credited their lives to Sheean and he was posthumously mentioned in despatches. In 1999, the submarine HMAS Sheean was named in his honour, and efforts have been made to have Sheean awarded the Victoria Cross for Australia. In the end they have to consult a printout to try and work out the law, even though they have already assaulted and false imprisoned said bikini girl. “There’s a new kind of “privilege” in town, and if you suffer from it, you can’t help it any more than you can help your skin color or your gender. (Although, of late, gender seems to be completely open to debate and have nothing to do with biology.) If you are an intelligent person, you have “cognitive privilege” according to an op-ed in the Daily Iowan. Well, that’s just really not fair, is it? With all the “privileges” out there that need to be kept in check, may God help you if you are white, male, attractive, and smart. You are public enemy #1 to the social justice set, you privileged scumbag. I’ll let the author, Dan Williams, explain cognitive privilege because I couldn’t possibly do it justice in a summary: We now know that intelligence is not something we have significant control over but is something we are born with. We are living in a society in which success is increasingly linked to one’s intelligence. This is not to say that intelligence is the only factor that is important. All that is implied is that below a certain threshold of intelligence, there are fewer and fewer opportunities. These opportunities are being shifted upward to jobs that require heavier cognitive lifting or else are being replaced by robots. Thus, the accident of having been born smart enough to be able to be successful is a great benefit that you did absolutely nothing to earn. Consequently, you have nothing to be proud of for being smart. So, in other words, if you’re not that smart, your job may be taken by a robot, and that isn’t your fault. I assume that this will eventually lead to the assumption that if you cognitively “disabled,” the world probably owes you something. Because we’re all about “fairness” in the United States, right? RIGHT? Furthermore, if you are smart, in the wise (cough) words of former President Obama, “You didn’t build that.”  You just hit the genetic lottery and should be humbled (and perhaps a little embarrassed) as opposed to proud. Will this be the next thing that kiboshes people who deserve it from getting a job? “We wanted to hire her, but she is smart. We have already exceeded our quota of cognitively privileged individuals, so we’ll have to go hire that dumb guy or we’ll be breaking labor laws.” Sometimes there is so much ridiculous stuff out there that you all must just think, “She has to be making this up.” Oh, that I was so creative. Nope, this is the society in which we dwell, with one ridiculous outrage on top of another.’”

     The US conservative sites, to be distinguished from survivalist (prepping plus guns), are concerned about the developing chaos in the US, and are now talking about self-defence. Not so much guns, and getting ready for the inevitable zombie apocalypse, when everything falls apart, but, more polite stuff like carrying a gentleman’s cane, as men in the Victorian era did, while strolling back from a big  dinner, and going to the theatre, cigar in hand. “Any sort of implement is better than no implement at all. A simple walking stick can be a devastating tool of self-defense. There are many sites on the net where the proper use of a cane to protect yourself can be studied. If nothing else, get a cane and practice what you see there on an old duffle bag. Better yet, round up a few friends and ask your local martial arts dojo to set up some classes for proper instruction. It would be hard to imagine police confiscating canes from, let’s face it, our somewhat silver-toned ranks. Do not bring anything that looks like a cudgel or shillelagh to a meeting/event. The cops will confiscate them—and they are actually less useful than the common cane with its crooked end. In this new age we find ourselves in, I don’t know why we all don’t just carry walking stick all the time. They are not illegal and are quite traditional. Let’s start a right-wing fashion trend.”

     With northern European people fast becoming minorities, if not already, in the lands their ancestors built, we need to move to a new way of thinking about things, beyond conservativism.
