Veganism as Ecologically Unsustainable By Mrs Vera West

We at this site are pro-farmer, and certainly pro-meat, both on economic and health grounds. In recent times a political dimension has been added, with many radical environmentalists championing veganism and anti-meat, as part of their political agenda. But, farmers are beginning the great fight back:
  https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/02/12/veganism-bad-for-the-environment-and-your-health-say-farmers/

“A scientist speaking at the National Farmers Union conference has argued that living a vegan lifestyle is more damaging to the environment than eating meat. The Rothamsted Institute’s Graham McAuliffe said that the manner in which tofu — a protein foodstuff made from soy ‘milk’ — is produced has a worse carbon footprint than chicken, pork, or lamb produced for eating, according to an unpublished report. Dr McAuliffe, who models the environmental impact of foods, said that current accepted research which claims that eating meat is worse for the environment fails to take into account that the human body does not absorb as much protein from plants as it does from meat, meaning that on a vegan diet, a person would have to eat more in order to obtain a healthy amount of protein, according to a report in The Times. Speaking at the conference in London, the scientist said: “Without a doubt peas and ground nuts always have a lower environmental impact than any livestock products. “But if you look at tofu, which is processed so there is more energy going into its production, when you correct for the fact that the protein in it is not as digestible compared to the meat-based products, you can see that it could actually have a higher global warming potential than any of the monogastric animals. “To get the same amount of protein, tofu is worse.”

Corona Virus Soars By Brian Simpson

The coronavirus continues to spread across the world with the first American dying, and five Britons have been diagnosed. However, the main event naturally continues to be China, where the death toll, or at least the official lie, is now standing at 805, surpassing the 2003 SARS outbreak. Crematoriums are working around the clock burning bodies, indicating that things are much worse than the communist government is letting on.

  https://www.breitbart.com/national-security/2020/02/07/report-china-crematorium-funeral-homes-burning-coronavirus-patients/

“A shocking report published Saturday local time by the Epoch Times revealed that crematoriums in China are struggling to keep up with the hundreds of bodies they are receiving, suggesting Beijing is undercounting the number of coronavirus deaths in the country. The Epoch Times, a Chinese-American anti-communist newspaper, sent journalists to speak with the heads of several funeral homes and crematoriums in Hubei province – whose capital, Wuhan, is the epicenter of the current novel coronavirus outbreak. The newspaper found that adding up the total number of people cremated per day in several funeral homes yielded a significantly larger number than the official number of deaths tallied since the outbreak began in December. The Chinese Communist Party alerted the world to the discovery of a new type of coronavirus on January 20, over a month after locals became aware of a disease spreading and 20 days after local officials shut down a wild meat market in Wuhan where the virus is believed to have originated. According to the Epoch Times, the crematoria were handling “4-5 times the usual cremation volume” per day.

Another Day in Coronavirus Land and Still No Non-Chinese Deaths By Brian Simpson

The coronavirus death toll has now hit 902 cases, surpassing SARs (813) in only three weeks. The number of confirmed cases in China is 40,171, and offshore, 382. According to the WHO Director-General, this may be only the tip of the iceberg. Indeed, one exiled Chinese billionaire, Guo Wengui, based on leaked information from Wuhan, and we know they these guys know everything, for how else could they be so rich (?), thinks that the death troll is about 50 thousand, with 1.5 million infected.

Zombies “R” Us By James Reed

A bit of a slow news period, but, we still have to churn out material. I recall Aussie comedy legend, Graham Kennedy who did a news show in the 1980s or was it the 1990s (?), facing a slow news day and saying: well, do they expect us to go out and make news! Anyway, at the ever-interesting Unz Review, I find buried under layers of other interesting material, a little article dealing with zombies, which puts the point that this may be a better metaphor for the inert masses than sheeple. After all, sheep have a bit of life in them:
  https://www.unz.com/rbonomo/were-all-zombies/

““I have always liked the ‘monster within’ idea. I like to think of zombies as being us. Zombies are the blue-collar monsters.” – George Romero
Another essential quality of the zombie is its unquenchable hunger. No amount of flesh and blood seems able to quench the longing to consume live human flesh. Modern man has a similar problem- no amount of money, sex, gadgets, job titles, drugs, entertainment, pornography, art, religion or gurus seem able to quench our thirst. We live in constant hunger. If we equate the zombie ‘hunger’ for flesh to the human desire for money, the comparison becomes almost uncanny. Most adult humans spend most of their day either making money or spending it while being constantly bombarded with propaganda/advertising to keep them hungry. From the most humble street vendor to the billionaires on CNBC, no one seems to ever have enough money. Zombies need to eat live human flesh and money is at its core, human labor. Our craving for money is really the craving for the work of others, for the sweat and blood of millions to furnish us with unlimited amounts of food and consumer goods. The vast majority of Westerners have ceased to create anything tangible. Only one in five Americans actually produce anything. Eating what one produces on a farm or trading manufactured goods for food connects us to life. But when people spend ten hours a day in an office looking at a computer screen and two hours in traffic, somehow eating, and living, become abstract. What are we actually doing to create the food, heat, and the shelter we need? Our hunger for food and things far outstrips our practical needs and has become the cause of our ever more obese, angry, unsatisfied society while our spiritual hunger leaves us addicted, chasing empty consumer thrills. There is no end to what can be consumed and there is never enough for even those with billions; we always need more.”

Surveillance Capitalism: An Assault on Human Autonomy By Brian Simpson

I have been saying this for years in my critique of technology, but it is good to hear a different voice for today:
  https://www.technocracy.news/professor-surveillance-capitalism-is-an-assault-on-human-autonomy/
  https://www.theguardian.com/books/2019/oct/04/shoshana-zuboff-surveillance-capitalism-assault-human-automomy-digital-privacy

“It’s a beautiful day on Hampstead Heath, the last weekend of summer – parliament is still prorogued. In a festival tent at the HowtheLightGetsIn festival, Professor Shoshana Zuboff is talking about her recent book, The Age of Surveillance Capitalism: The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power. Zuboff stands on a low stage, making eye-contact with her audience. She spies someone who seems unconvinced, invites them to raise their concerns. “When this book was published in January, I left home for three weeks on the road,” she says. “I’m still going.” The audience laughs. Because The Age of Surveillance Capitalism – a 700-plus page sociological analysis of the digital era – has become an epoch-defining international bestseller, drawing comparisons to revolutionary works such as Rachel Carson’s Silent Spring. Naomi Klein has urged everyone to read it “as an act of digital self-defence”. It describes how global tech companies such as Google and Facebook persuaded us to give up our privacy for the sake of convenience; how personal information (“data”) gathered by these companies has been used by others not only to predict our behaviour but also to influence and modify it; and how this has had disastrous consequences for democracy and freedom. This is the “surveillance capitalism” of the title, which Zuboff defines as a “new economic order” and “an expropriation of critical human rights that is best understood as a coup from above”.

The Real Racists are the Mainstream Media By Peter Ewer

It is interesting that the mainstream media, priding itself on so-called anti-racism have not hesitated to vilify the Chinese over the coronavirus epidemic. This article at the great Unz Review lays into them:
  https://www.unz.com/article/how-to-yellow-cake-a-tragedy/

“Instead of voicing support or encouraging solidarity–“We are Wuhan”—western corporate media have chosen to go all out to criticize and demonize China, sparing no effort to recycle and rekindle ugly, racist, orientalist, and dehumanizing tropes, using any perceived misstep, pretext, and shortcoming to tar China and the Chinese. One virulent narrative is that this is deliberate Chinese bioweapon to reduce population. Another narrative, no less toxic and virulent, alleges that the Chinese leadership, out of a “fear of political embarrassment”, suppressed free speech and silenced the flow of information “at critical moments”, “allowing the virus to gain a tenacious hold”, thus creating the conditions for a lethal epidemic that has led to the deaths of hundreds and the infection of thousands. The NY Times takes the [yellow] cake for sowing this toxic, racist disinformation, alleging in numerous articles and opinion pieces of a “cover up”: that “China’s old habits put secrecy and order ahead of openly confronting the crisis”; that “they played down dangers to the public, leaving the city’s 11 million residents unaware that they should protect themselves”, and presenting this as proof dispositive that the Chinese system is fatally flawed. All this while reveling in and boosting on its website, unseemly schadenfreude that suppression of information and free speech has led to condign and expected catastrophe.

Coronavirus as a Bioweapon By Brian Simpson

I am updating here the coronavirus pandemic today’s news. The view that this is a dud disease is refuted by rising death tolls in China, with the commo authorities hiding the real number of dead:
  https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/president-xi-warns-ncov-outbreak-threatens-stability-top-who-official-disputes
  https://saraacarter.com/gordon-chang-chinese-authorities-are-falsifying-the-death-toll-from-coronavirus/?utm_source=izooto&utm_medium=push_notifications&utm_campaign=gordon&utm_content=&utm_term=

“Local Chinese authorities have just lost the ability to pick up corpses due to a breakdown in government,” said Gordon Chang, a well-known expert on China on “Tucker Carlson Tonight.” “So really what we are having right now is, they are completely overwhelmed,” Chang added. “They are not able to keep accurate statistics. So what we are witnessing is essentially a breakdown in government and keeping accurate statistics is a very minor part of their priorities right now.” Chang said that while he understands the preventative measure, he believes the quarantine has “made the problem worse.” “I can understand why they want to quarantine but remember, the Wuhan mayor said about 5 million people from his city left before the quarantine was imposed,” he said. “Also right now the quarantine has aggravated a problem and that is [that] people can’t get to hospitals, so they are at home…they are dying.” “They are infecting other people in their households because they are not, in a sense, quarantined from wives, husbands, brothers, sisters,” he continued. “The quarantine has made the problem worse. It’s also created panic. That panic has had consequences on, for instance, social cohesion which is absolutely necessary if you want to beat an epidemic.”

Why is Israel Ceasing Fluoridation of its Water? By Mrs Vera West

Israel is one nation that has it together, and when it makes some radical change, it would be wise to analyse it. Take fluoride in the water for example:
  https://www.timesofisrael.com/israel-to-discontinue-fluoridation-of-tap-water/?fbclid=IwAR2Hodyj7Wbel8zCdVvkTxZ599fhy7Gw_SOgcXutzVe0hLFLYp25OPnuD6E&mc_cid=f4960f4a12&mc_eid=d3d8da2276

“Israeli tap water will no longer contain fluoride after Tuesday, following a decree by Health Minister Yael German earlier this month discontinuing the practice. The decision has been lauded by various rights groups, but criticized by many in the medical and dental communities as a serious mistake. Fluoride is commonly added to national water supplies by governments throughout the world in order to prevent tooth decay, but critics say overconsumption of the invisible, odorless, tasteless gas is a health hazard. Despite the widespread fluoridation, German, a member of the Yesh Atid party, has made no secret about her disdain for the practice. During her tenure as mayor of Herzliya, she successfully stopped the national government from fluoridating the city’s water supply. Shortly after she was appointed health minister in 2013, she announced her plans to end public fluoridation once and for all. However, following a wave of backlash from public health experts and government officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, she mandated that fluoridation would only continue for population centers that opted for the program. The program, which had been opted into by local authorities of 5.3 million residents, has no longer become optional, as German officially announced her decision to discontinue fluoridation on August 26.”

What is Auto-Racism? By James Reed

The received view is that only whites are racist because of the culture of guilt as a weapon, blah, blah, Great Replacement etc. Ok, but there is a problem. What if there is discrimination within a racial group against its own members?
  https://www.capebretonpost.com/news/local/chinese-woman-says-sydney-ns-restaurant-discriminating-against-her-406361/

“A Chinese woman says a Sydney restaurant is discriminating against their own culture. Olivia Lu, a Glace Bay resident from China attending Cape Breton University, says Chinese students are being barred from entering the Fortune Star Chinese Restaurant in Sydney. “It’s discrimination, it’s ridiculous, it’s so rude,” said Lu. Lu said a couple days ago a group of her friends went to the restaurant, sat down and were asked to leave. “They told them they don’t accept Chinese students anymore,” she said. “They said they could call and place an order and call delivery man to pick it up.” Lu said a sign was posted on the door in Chinese which translated read: “Due to the recent outbreak of pneumonia in Wuhan for the safety of everyone, our store does not accept Chinese students for the time being. If necessary, you can call for deliver. Sorry for the inconvenience, please forgive me.” After students began sharing photos of the sign on social media, there was an uproar from angry students. “Then the next day they put up a new sign saying they were closing the restaurant for a month,” Lu said. Although she hears the restaurant makes really good food, Lui said she will never go there again. “The thing is, they are all Chinese, even the staff that work there are Chinese,” she said, adding that this should never happen anywhere, but the restaurant is even doing it to their own people. Although some students did go home over the holiday break, the virus didn’t start until after that and the flights are shut down anyway, she said. Many Chinese students on Facebook sites were expressing anger over the restaurant’s decision, most feeling it was discrimination. There are also some posts defending the restaurant, saying obviously the owner is taking precautions.”

Let Them Eat Not Cake, but Radiation! By James Reed

Trust mother nature to solve our radiation problem, so we can keep up our high levels of consumption in this age of plenty:
  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-7966773/Fungi-EATS-radiation-used-like-sun-block-humans-protect-against-deadly-rays.html

“A strand of fungi which spawned inside the Chernobyl nuclear reactor and eats radiation could allow humans to insulate against deadly rays. In 1991, five years after the disaster which rocked Ukraine, the black fungi was found sprouting up the walls of the abandoned reactor which had been flooded with gamma. Baffled how it managed to survive the extreme conditions, scientists examined the microorganism - and were even more excited with their findings. In addition to not perishing, they discovered that the fungi actually grows towards the radiation, as if attracted to it. This is because of its large amounts of melanin - the pigment which turns skin dark - and allows the fungi to absorb normally harmful rays which it then converts into chemical energy. In the same way in which plants convert carbon dioxide and chlorophyll into oxygen and glucose via photosynthesis, the fungi sapped up deadly rays which allowed it to produce energy. This process - hailed radiosynthesis - has captured the attention of scientists because of its potentially revolutionary implications. Kasthuri Venkateswaran, a research scientist at NASA who is leading the experiments on the Cryptococcus neoformans fungi, believes that by extracting its radiation-absorbing power and manufacturing it in drug form, it could be used as a 'sun block' against toxic rays.”

5G and Sperm By Brian Simpson

Much has been said about the ill-effects of 5G technology, but maybe the fact that sperms are going to get toasted, might make some rams of the sheeple flock, think:
  https://www.technocracy.news/scientists-5g-network-could-lower-sperm-counts-and-sterilize-young-men/

“There are fears that increased levels of radiation in the UK as 5G coverage spreads across the country could seriously impact human fertility levels. The rollout of the high-speed network, which was launched in Britain in May last year, has sparked protests from those who believe higher levels of electro-magnetic radiation (EMR) in the atmosphere are dangerous and 5G’s potential health effects need to be tested. A letter presented to Downing Street last week urged Prime Minister Boris Johnson to open an inquiry into “establishing the true impact of wireless communication systems on the health of the UK population”. “We are extremely concerned by the vulnerability of our young and very young people to the harmful effects of pulsed RF radiation,” read the letter which was handed over along with two petitions, one of which was signed by 268 physicians and scientists. “Study upon study is showing that this non-ionising radiation is causing oxidative DNA damage in cellular systems and this may be particularly harmful to the reproductive system of young boys, adolescents and young men.” Sperm counts among British men have fallen by 29% in the last decade. Multiple international studies have found a link between increased mobile phone use and a drop in both the quantity and quality of sperm. A 2016 review by the Society for Reproduction and Fertility reported that of 27 studies investigating the effects of mobile phone EMR on the male reproductive system, 21 resulted in negative consequences of exposure. In a 2018 article called ‘Wi-Fi is an important threat to human health’ which was published in the journal Environmental Research, Dr Martin Pall from Washington State University cites a 1997 experiment with chilling results. Two pairs of young mice were placed into cages with different levels of exposure to a functioning antenna, although the exposure levels at both sites were well within safety guidelines. The pair in the cage with a higher exposure level produced one litter of smaller than normal babies, a second litter with fewer than normal babies, and demonstrated infertility or very low fertility from this point on. The pair exposed to a lower level of EMR produced four litters with fewer numbers of babies each time, before they became completely infertile.

Vegan on the Brain By Mrs Vera West

The vegan diet, no meats, animal products etc. is promoted as healthy and increasing the life span by its supporters, if you call that living. But, what about the effects of this diet on your brain?
  https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200127-how-a-vegan-diet-could-affect-your-intelligence

“The idea that avoiding meat is bad for our brains makes some intuitive sense; anthropologists have been arguing about what our ancestors ate for decades, but many scientists think that there was a lot of bone-crunching and brain-slurping on the road to evolving these remarkable 1.4kg (3lb) organs. Some have even gone so far as to say that meat made us human. One reason is that intelligence is expensive – the brain devours about 20% of our daily calories, though it accounts for just 2% of our body weight – and what better way to find the enormous array of fats, amino acids, vitamins and minerals these fastidious organs require, than by feasting on animals which have already painstakingly collected or made them. … On the one hand, recent concern about the nutritional gaps in plant-based diets has led to a number of alarming headlines, including a warning that they can stunt brain development and cause irreversible damage to a person’s nervous system. Back in 2016, the German Society for Nutrition went so far as to categorically state that – for children, pregnant or nursing women, and adolescents – vegan diets are not recommended, which has been backed up by a 2018 review of the research. After the Royal Academy of Medicine in Belgium decided a vegan diet was “unsuitable” for children, parents who force a vegan diet on their offspring in Belgium could even one day find themselves in prison.

Dying in the Zombie Apocalypse By Brian Simpson

The photos of rows upon rows of beds looks like something out of a zombie apocalypse movie, but, it is China’s prep for the coronavirus. Just check out the beds here, frightening indeed:
  https://www.zerohedge.com/health/hospital-or-coronavirus-deathatorium
  https://www.shtfplan.com/headline-news/nz-mans-eyewitness-account-of-coronavirus-outbreak-in-wuhan-people-are-fighting-for-food_02052020

“A man from New Zealand says that he has had a first-hand account of what’s been happening in Wuhan after the coronavirus’ outbreak at the end of 2019. He says people are fighting for food and reselling used facemasks. A New Zealand man living in China has described his reality of the viral outbreak that has killed almost 500 people now, saying the China we see on the internet is far from the truth.  The mainstream media is manipulating the information and with Google and The World Health Organization teaming up to “kill” or censor accounts that don’t fit the official narrative, we may not ever get the complete and honest truth of just how bad the outbreak could become. The aforementioned New Zealand man, who lives in northeast China with his wife and two children, says they are barely getting by. “It’s getting worse by the day … everything has fallen apart here,” the man, who asked for anonymity out of fear of his family’s safety, said, according to the New Zealand Herald. “Fear levels are high and there is a lot of conflicting information, but people are staying calm,” an Australian woman told the Herald, contradicting the New Zealanders’ claim of mayhem. The New Zealand man told the Herald people had been selling masks for as much as $50. “I see old ladies walking around picking face masks out of the trash and then they sell them on the street the next day laughing about it,” he said. “When China says they’ve got enough and they’re handing them out, they’re not, I can tell you that now – there’s none available anywhere.” To make them appear new, the women would iron them after plucking the masks from the bin, the man said. Additionally, according to his claims,  fights were often breaking out over things like eggs and vegetables.”

Coffee, Not Love is “the Drug” By Mrs Vera West

To set the scene, how about Roxy Music’s Love is the Drug (1975), with the (at the time) handsome Bryan Ferry as lead singer? No, wait, cancel that. I actually listened to the lyrics in the first time since 1975, and suddenly realised that Bryan was singing about something other than holding hands at a Sunday school picnic. Oh well, I will just have another cup of coffee instead:
  https://www.greenwichtime.com/news/article/Caffeine-has-been-a-boon-for-civilization-15031811.php

“Michael Pollan laughs and says, yes, he's on drugs while conducting this interview. Okay, he doesn't use those exact words, but he acknowledges that he has a "tall, takeout container" of half-caff coffee at his side as we discuss, via phone, his latest project, simply titled "Caffeine," available only as an audio book from Audible. Pollan, the author of "The Omnivore's Dilemma," "The Botany of Desire," "In Defense of Food" and "How to Change Your Mind" - in which he has explored our complicated relationship with food, plants, drugs and many other things we take for granted - has turned his imposing analytical skills to caffeine, the most popular mind-altering chemical on the planet. Caffeine would transform the world around us in ways large and small, magnificent and horrific. It would stimulate and focus the mind in a way that would influence the workplace, politics, social relations and "arguably even the rhythms of English prose," Pollan writes. But the cultivation of, and trade in, coffee and tea plants (and the sugar used in both) would also enslave countless people and lead to the East India Company opening an opium trade with China. The drug trade was good for British coffers, but it crippled a great empire. Once business executives discovered caffeine could improve worker production, coffee became capitalism's silent co-conspirator. Pollan delves into a Fair Labor Standards Act case from the 1950s in which a company, Los Wigman Weavers, made 15-minute coffee breaks mandatory, but refused to pay workers for the breaks.

Those Who Live by Globalism, Die by Globalism By James Reed

The World Health Organization has now declared the coronavirus epidemic a global pandemic. But it stopped short of advocating closing borders, although sensible countries like Russia, have already done so, and good for them:
  https://www.ft.com/content/75adafb6-4306-11ea-abea-0c7a29cd66fe
  https://www.nytimes.com/2020/01/30/health/coronavirus-world-health-organization.html
  https://www.naturalnews.com/2020-01-30-w-h-o-declares-global-pandemic-coronavirus.html

“The World Health Organization declared on Thursday that the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak was a global health emergency, acknowledging that the disease now represents a risk beyond China, where it emerged last month. The decision reversed the organization’s decision just a week ago to hold off such a declaration. Since then, W.H.O. officials said, thousands of new cases in China and clear human-to-human transmission in several other countries — now including the United States — warranted a reconsideration of that decision by the agency’s expert committee. The W.H.O.’s declaration — officially called a “public health emergency of international concern” — does not have the force of law. But it serves notice to all United Nations member states that the world’s top health advisory body thinks the situation is grave. Governments then make their own decisions about whether to close their borders, cancel flights, screen people arriving at airports or take other protective measures.”

The Coming Dark Age By Peter Ewer

This is an informative article dealing with a topic that thinkers contemplating the collapse of Western civilisation come up to: will there be a new Dark Age as followed the collapse of the Roman Empire? The article is by an academic writing under the pen name of Ferdinand Bardamu, which is the name of the protagonist in the great novel by French iconoclastic writer Louis-Ferdinand Céline, Journey to the End of the Night (1932):
  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journey_to_the_End_of_the_Night

Bardamu sees a new Dark Age as already upon us as the white race rushes into the abyss of racial suicide, pulling down the temple of civilisation with it, and this time, in a globally interconnected world, when one domino collapses, they all ultimately will.

Update on the 5G War By Brian Simpson

Here are two good articles, detailing how the global elite are using advanced technology for increasing social control and power. The problem is that this techy is what is known as a “social trap,” something that catches people and becomes stuck to them, so that they are dependent upon it, even thought there was once a world not too long ago without it. That makes it particularly difficult to oppose technological advances which are clearly having the majority benefit to the elites, creating a technocracy. It is far from clear how this can be fought, other than a purge of the entire system, which is not going to happen soon. There is remarkedly little written about the strategy of opposing technocracy, but much about its evils. We need to begin to think critically about science and technology, which have become modern gods, delivering the goodies by magic to the sheeple who mindless, or almost mindlessly, consume.

The Coronavirus, A New World Order Plot! By James Reed

Why didn’t we say this, or rather why didn’t I? Too much biology from science teacher Brian Simpson, and not enough good old-fashioned conspiracy. Me: I love a good conspiracy in the morning:
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jts9suWIDlU

No sooner had I bought new tin foil for my bald head, when after Richard Wolstencroft’s Report from Tiger Mountain (20), where he convinced me, and I don’t take much convincing, that the bushfires were a globalist conspiracy, he has a new report that the coronavirus is a New World Order “plot,” his term. Yes, I say! The globalists will use every piece of driftwood that floats their way for their agenda. Global cooling would have been even better than global warming for example. I mean, in a new ice age shouldn’t we all be together for “warmth”?

The Mistake Made by Asians with Masks By Brian Simpson

It is surprising that the magazine American Renaissance (“Asians are soooo much smarter than us”) is not jumping up to advise, but I guess they feel no need to, knowing their place in the great chain of being. I have in mind face masks, and anyone walking around town, waiting for the inevitable zombie apocalypse will see many friendly people donning surgical masks. But these are useless against air borne viruses:
  https://www.livescience.com/face-mask-new-coronavirus.html

“Can wearing a medical face mask protect you against the new coronavirus? It's a question many people, including pet owners who are putting canine face masks on their dogs, are asking. If it's a regular surgical face mask, the answer is "no," Dr. William Schaffner, an infectious-disease specialist at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, told Live Science. A more specialized mask, known as an N95 respirator, can protect against the new coronavirus, also called 2019-nCoV. The respirator is thicker than a surgical mask, but Schaffner doesn't recommend it for public use, at least not at this point. That's because, in part, it's challenging to put these masks on and wear them for long periods of time, he said. Specialists receive retraining annually on how to properly fit these respirators around the nose, cheeks and chin, ensuring that wearers don't breathe around the edges of the respirator. "When you do that, it turns out that the work of breathing, since you're going through a very thick material, is harder. You have to work to breathe in and out. It's a bit claustrophobic.
