“The New York Times is suddenly and retroactively blaming Israel for motivating the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, without much evidence to support the claim. A recent Times news article about deadly attacks in Africa by affiliates of the terrorist group Al Qaeda blames them on President Trump’s decision to obey an American law that required him to move the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.      This has been seen in many cases of sporting triumph, but probably also in the academic rewards system. Feminists have held that gender is biological, when it suits them, namely when there is some supposed biological advantage to women, but mostly gender is seen as a social construct. On this view trans-women are perfectly legitimate. Now, I am not questioning any legitimacy here, but I wonder how this will all end? With the unrelenting attack upon manhood, what is there to stop every oppressed man, suddenly declaring that they are now “female”? This can be done without any surgery, because gender is just in the social mind, a social construct So, how will the system deal with this hypothetical?

     Watching the Burdekin Falls Dam with around six metres of water going over the spillway following flood rains in the catchment, we must remember that this is not a rare occurrence. As far back as 1875 there are records of the Burdekin River rising over 18 metres in just a few hours and repeated reports of 1 to 6 metres of water above the bridge deck at Inkerman. Records of high river flows lasting weeks and months are not uncommon. Following a cyclone in December 1974 the river remained at flood height until April 1975. These flood flows can exceed 5 mega-litres per second (almost half a million ML every day). This is sufficient to fill our oldest irrigation storage, Burrinjuck Dam, from empty, every two days.

     The roar of this cascading water is the roar of waste – wasted water that will be needed in years of little or no flow. It is also the roar of flood water that is destroying people’s lives and carrying sediment and nutrients that some say may damage the Great Barrier Reef. We can avoid this flooding. We can store this water for later use. We can use it to produce cheap clean power and vastly increase productivity across the Burdekin Basin. With vision and planning we can use it to drought-proof much of central and western Queensland. Why don’t we do it?

     A NSW judge (an ex-solicitor and activist from the Environmental Defenders Office) has stopped development of the small Rocky Hill coking coal mine because the Commonwealth Government has signed the Paris Climate agreement which requires “rapid and deep reduction in GHG emissions”. Two things are obvious. Firstly, this delusional decision must be appealed and overturned. Secondly, Australia must immediately withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement. If this decision is not overturned, every development of coal, oil or gas in Australia can be challenged. But the ominous implications go much further. The sports and tourism industries should be fearful. These industries encourage millions of competitors, visitors, tourists, officials and politicians to use cars, trains, buses, planes and ships to burn hydro-carbon fuels purely for entertainment. Car racing is out, as are new cruise terminals, stadiums, resorts, high rise hotels and fireworks.

     Moreover, any new road, rail or airport development will add emissions and must be stopped along with any expansion of the grazing or timber industries and the brewing of beer. There are some good things – it should mark the end of tax-funded climate jamborees and study tours for politicians – they should stay in their electorates and conduct electronic meetings via their own expensive NBN. But if they can stop the mining of coking coal this will also stop metal smelting, refining and steel making. Naturally Adani can expect even more green law-fare barriers. This decision surely marks the high water mark of climate lunacy.

     I am not a theologian, or even a profound thinker; maybe not a thinker at all. But my gut instincts have saved my life on many occasions, especially in ‘Nam. Thus, I note with concern, the trend among Christians of pacifism, and anti-guns. The situation in Australia is much worse than in America, as I think we are more cucked and weaker. But the trend exists here too. This has been noted by the Christian survivalist writer John Wesley Rawles:

     Previously I commented on the New York Senate pro-abortion Act, which permits the killing of unborn babies right up to the instant of birth, and beyond. Abortionists can kill babies that survive the abortion, even if they are viable, which by definition is infanticide. Naturally, nothing about this appeared in the Australian press, because it shows where the abortion industry ends up. He may jest, but the flaw in his approach is that the black cat does exist and that there is overwhelming evidence of it in all the great cultures of the world, our own Western civilization being one. It is no laughing matter, however. The obvious decadence and corruption of Western societies has come about precisely because their leaderships have over-valued logical reasoning at the expense of our higher faculties of intuition, inspiration and what Saint Thomas Aquinas called "higher reason". To The Age        Pat Turner argues ("Finally, a step in the right direction", 15/2) that the "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people" should be treated as "equal partners" in the search to "close the gap"; but there are problems with this advocacy. It is not clear that such a "people" exists today in fact. Rather, there are a minority of Australians who happen to have some or full Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander ancestry. As for the "gap", there is reason to fear, on scientific grounds concerning genetic inheritance, that the gap simply cannot be closed. This suggests that the campaign to close it has been conceived and is being operated in order to achieve significant change in the political order of the nation - a kind of confidence trick at the expense of other Australians. Government policies should be predicated on the welfare of all of us, with equitable sharing that is not derailed by insult terminology ("racism") or dubious psychological theorizing ("generational trauma").
