We Can’t Live Together: French Philosopher Pierre Manent, By Richard Miller (Europe)

Unlike in the UK and Australia, France takes its professional philosophers seriously, which may or may not be a good thing. At least sometimes they get it right, as seen by the recent pronouncements of Pierre Manent, who has given comments about immigration and the number of Muslims in Europe. "We still have to look at the masses, the forces, and realize that the pressure is such that we have to make decisions concerning, I say it bluntly, the number of Muslims who are in Europe." Supporting his argument, he stated that the number of Muslims in Europe "cannot grow indefinitely." "If it grows indefinitely, as is the case in Europe today, we will face tragedies that no version of secularism will be able to control,"

While that is common sense, it generated in France, and I visit the place for work frequently and was there when this story exploded, extreme controversy, with the ever-insane French Left seeing these soft remarks as constituting a race hate crime. It just shows what we are now up against. Camp of the Saints was just an approximation of the present degeneracy. The Left lust for self-annihilation.

"French philosopher Pierre Manent has given his opinion on immigration and the number of Muslims in Europe. But his remarks have sparked a heated debate on social media.

"Can we still live together?" Invited onto the set of Le Figaro TV, as part of a program on secularism, the French philosopher Pierre Manent answered bluntly: "We still have to look at the masses, the forces, and realize that the pressure is such that we have to make decisions concerning, I say it bluntly, the number of Muslims who are in Europe." Supporting his argument, he stated that the number of Muslims in Europe "cannot grow indefinitely."

"If it grows indefinitely, as is the case in Europe today, we will face tragedies that no version of secularism will be able to control," the philosopher concluded. These remarks provoked strong reactions from Internet users. "But how horrible this guy is!" wrote one of them on X. "Do you realize how crazy this is?" asked another. These remarks represent "a clear incitement to commit a crime against humanity," he believes. "When Le Figaro easily broadcasts racist anti-Muslim remarks...", similarly deplores a user.

In the process, some public figures, such as journalist and author François-Xavier Consoli, have, however, given their support to Pierre Manent. "Religion is at the heart of most current issues; brushing it aside only delays the outcome of future conflicts," he argued on his X account. "We will not solve any problems as long as we continue to lie to ourselves with the outdated idea of a 'one and indivisible' France," insisted essayist Julien Rochedy.

In the eyes of former elected official Christian Lechevalier, the philosopher's visit is "extraordinary". "Finally!! Pierre Manent dares to talk about limiting the number of those who only come to destroy our civilisation!" he rejoiced on his X account.
