The War Against Gas Stoves By James Reed

This is a warning to us, that the climate change emergency fanaticism is set to take off in Australia, at a household level now. The US was facing widespread bans on use of gas in homes and businesses, such as restaurants, with woke places like New York being an example. There gas stoves will be banned in new homes as early as 2026.

Here in Australia, the Sydney city council has already passed a motion to ban gas stoves in new buildings. The time line of the bans has not yet been laid down, but no doubt it will soon. And a council spokesperson said "The City would welcome a state-wide mandate on banning gas connections by the NSW Government, as has been done in Victoria.” Expect this to spread throughout the rest of Australia; it is thin edge of a mighty thick wedge.

Clearly it is difficult to fight every single one of these developments, and instead one needs to focus upon attacking the head of the snake, the ideology of the climate change crisis, which is producing this madness. We try to take this broad approach at this blog, because as this example shows, the science can have terrible public policy impacts.

“The City of Sydney has become the latest New South Wales council to support a ban on gas in new buildings.

A council spokesperson has confirmed to 9news.com.au a motion to investigate a potential ban was passed last night.

The council will now ask the CEO to "investigate the opportunities and challenges" that come with altering planning controls to require all new residential developments to be all electric and to report back "as soon as possible".

Lord Mayor Clover Moore will also write to NSW Premier Chris Minns to request incentives or rebates to transition homes and businesses to renewable energy.

There is no timeline in place for the implementation of any ban.

"The City would welcome a state-wide mandate on banning gas connections by the NSW Government, as has been done in Victoria," a council spokesperson said.

"Until this happens, we're looking at other ways we can electrify residential homes and reduce new gas connections within the City of Sydney. This would build on our Net Zero Performance planning controls for new offices, shopping centres and hotels.

"At Council last night it was resolved that staff would investigate additional options to reduce gas use, including changes to planning rules."

Waverley and Parramatta councils have previously voted in favour of similar bans, while in Victoria and the ACT the edict has been made state and territory-wide.

But recently, NSW Premier Chris Minns said a statewide ban was not on the cards, citing NSW's different energy challenges.”
