There are better indications than polls, which are notoriously wrong and subject to bias, such as the betting odds for election gambling, which put Trump ahead. But the polls are for public consumption and will indicate to the average sheeple that things are even. As argued at many internet sites, this is done so when the Democrats rollout the electoral fraud machine, it can be said, that there was nothing foul going on.
