The Push for the Catholic Church to Embrace Homosexuality By Peter West

Jesuit Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich told Catholic News Agency (KNA) that the Catholic Church should change its teaching on homosexuality, which is still seen as a sin. “I believe that the sociological-scientific foundation of this teaching is no longer correct,” Hollerich said. Thus, the Church’s position is contrary to the new wisdom of the age, sociology. And, once one goes there expect everything gendered to be deconstructed. Transgenderism and everything else sociologic will need to be added. So, why have this religion at all over secular humanist globalism? Why, indeed!

“Jesuit Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich told Catholic News Agency (KNA) Tuesday the Catholic Church should change its teaching on homosexuality.

Cardinal Hollerich, the archbishop of Luxembourg and president of the EU Bishops’ Commission (COMECE), said that Catholic teaching on the sinfulness of homosexual relations is mistaken and needs to be updated.

“I believe that the sociological-scientific foundation of this teaching is no longer correct,” Hollerich said, while calling for a fundamental revision of the teaching.

The Catholic Church teaches that same-sex attraction is “is objectively disordered.”

“Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that ‘homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered,’” states the Catholic Catechism, adding that under no circumstances “can they be approved.”

“I know that I have homosexuals among my priests,” Hollerich told KNA. “I have homosexual women and men among the laity. And they know they have a home in the Church.”

The cardinal also said that the way Pope Francis has dealt with the issue of homosexuality could lead to a change in official Church teaching.

In 2018, Pope Francis said it is a mistake to downplay the seriousness of homosexuality, insisting that homosexuals have no place in the priesthood.

Asked whether homosexuality was a problem for priests or “just an expression of an affection,” the pope said it is “a mistake” to treat it as something unimportant.

“It’s not just an expression of an affection. In consecrated and priestly life, there’s no room for that kind of affection,” he said.

The pope also reiterated Church teaching “that people with that kind of ingrained tendency should not be accepted into the ministry or consecrated life. The ministry or the consecrated life is not his place.”

In 2021, the Vatican’s doctrinal office, in a text personally approved by Pope Francis, declared that the Church has no power to bless homosexual unions, since God Himself “does not and cannot bless sin.”

Blessings require “that what is blessed be objectively and positively ordered to receive and express grace” and therefore, “only those realities which are in themselves ordered to serve those ends are congruent with the essence of the blessing imparted by the Church,” it declared.

For this reason, it is not licit to impart a blessing on relationships that involve sexual activity outside of marriage (the indissoluble union of a man and a woman), “as is the case of the unions between persons of the same sex,” it stated, because the union itself is “not ordered to the Creator’s plan.”

Blessing homosexual unions is impossible, the document declared, because “there are absolutely no grounds for considering homosexual unions to be in any way similar or even remotely analogous to God’s plan for marriage and family.”

Blessing an illicit sexual union would be “to approve and encourage a choice and a way of life that cannot be recognized as objectively ordered to the revealed plans of God,” it noted.”

Still, even given the above, the Pope is still itching towards Cardinal Hollerich’s position.

“The decision by Pope Francis to offer his tentative support for civil union laws for same-sex couples was praised Thursday by U.N. chief Antonio Guterres.

A devout worshipper from Catholic Portugal, the former socialist political leader said the cautious papal thumbs-up was “extremely welcome.”

“This is a clear demonstration of a fundamental principle, which is the principle of nondiscrimination,” said Guterres in New York during an interview with the Associated Press. “And one of the things that has been very clear in the U.N. doctrine on this is that non-discrimination is also relevant in the questions of sexual orientation.

“So this is decision of the Pope is, of course, extremely welcome from our perspective.”

Francis’s comments emerged in a new documentary titled Francesco in which he said that “what we have to create is a civil union law,” a position at odds with previous Vatican dogma.

While Francis, 83, opposes gay marriage, his words were hailed by admirers as a “major step forward in the church’s support for LGBT people.”

The pope’s remarks sparked immediate calls for clarification as they seem to directly contradict official Catholic teaching on the matter, as Breitbart News reported.”
