The Next Round of “Hate” Speech Laws, By Paul Walker
With the Albo government having international-attention grabbing internet censorship, as seen in the Federal Court case involving X of Elon Musk, it is only natural that the Attorney General will move to bring in even tighter "hate" speech laws. We saw this attempt under the Gillard government, where there were various woke categories of protected people. But that proposal got shot down by public and legal criticism. Now, with the radical Left protests about the war in the Middle East, university violence, and recent stabbings, the idea is that, pass a new law and a lid can be kept on things. Never deal with the root cause of the problem; always address symptoms in the most simplistic way, by passing a law, which amounts to "Big Sister says, don't say that, or a smack!".
The problem here is that the government is not dealing now with the radical Right who are effectively dead. The radical Left, who burn down buildings in America, do not care too much about breaking speech laws. And as for the stabbings, well sure the laws will definitely shut up conservatives who may go on about "terrorism," but as terrorists stab people to death, they hardly will care about hate speech, if they are willing to murder. The legal penalties don't matter as they are open to dying anyway. You know, being martyrs and all that. Hate laws are irrelevant to them.
Overall, the less-than-hidden agenda is to push censorship to the next level under the disguise of community protection. It is but another thing to oppose when more details are available. The Bill is likely to be an over-the-top extravaganza like under the Gillard government, so may be vulnerable to public criticism. There have been some suggestions made that the laws will be so strong that various groups may use them as a political weapon against the very groups which are presently, in a knee-jerk reaction, lobbying for these laws. To be followed up.
Labor just can't help itself where woke is concerned, the Voice referendum being but one example. No doubt the present goal is to out-woke even the Scottish hate laws. Let the backlash begin!

"Attorney General Mark Dreyfus is reportedly drafting a new set of hate speech laws which will impose criminal penalties for serious cases of faith vilification.
The penalties are also set to apply for extreme instances of abuse based on a person's race, sexuality, gender, or disability. Existing hate speech laws will be strengthened, and new laws will be created, carrying criminal rather than civil penalties.
The hate speech bill is expected to enhance the federal protection of minority groups in the country.
Mr Dreyfus, "With third and fourth generation Australians fast moving toward minority group status, will these laws open this path to redress of grievance protecting them with the same vigorous litigation reflected in daily court listings by our misunderstood ethnic cousins, our first nation brothers, or the fragile alphabet people?" – Harry Palmer
