The Loneliness of Liberal Women, By Mrs Abigail Knight (Florida)
The following relates to US women, as much research of interest to our politics is US focussed, but it would not to too long a bow to draw to suppose that say Australian liberal women were also- unhappy! A recent 2024 poll conducted by the American Family Survey has unveiled a predictable trend: liberal women in the United States are profoundly dissatisfied with their lives! The survey reveals that a mere 12 percent of liberal women report being happy, and these women are three times more likely to experience loneliness compared to their conservative counterparts. This finding corroborates a series of previous studies indicating a steady decline in happiness among progressive women, even as they enjoy greater independence and opportunities than ever before.
Brad Wilcox, a sociology professor at the University of Virginia, who analysed the survey data, offers several insights into why conservative women appear to be happier. According to Wilcox, conservative women tend to have a stronger sense of agency, viewing themselves as captains of their own fate. They are less likely to feel like victims of societal structures and are less prone to catastrophizing about public events or issues. In contrast, liberal women often experience higher levels of anxiety, and their increasing discomfort seems to be linked to a broader cultural shift driven by feminism and the rejection of traditional gender roles.
The survey also highlights a critical difference between conservative and liberal women when it comes to accepting biological and social distinctions between men and women. Conservative women are more likely to accept these differences, while liberal women have embraced the feminist notion that these roles are merely social constructs, a perspective that has gained prominence in recent decades. However, the widespread deconstruction of traditional gender norms and the imposition of feminist ideologies have come at a cost—especially in terms of women's emotional and mental well-being.
The roots of this decline in happiness among liberal women can be traced back to as early as 2009, when a study by the University of Pennsylvania shocked many by revealing that despite increased opportunities for women in education, the workforce, and social influence since the 1970s, young women were increasingly less happy than their predecessors. While the study refrains from directly blaming feminism, it hints that modern ideological constructs—particularly those promoted by the feminist movement—could be contributing to rising anxiety levels among women.
While men have also seen a sharp decline in happiness in recent decades, their financial prospects have remained relatively stable. For women, however, increased financial and social opportunities, particularly access to higher education, have not been enough to counterbalance the drop in personal satisfaction. The American Family Survey makes it clear that it's not conservative women who are dragging down the numbers, but rather their liberal counterparts.
Historically, before the 1970s, men were the primary breadwinners, and women's roles were centered around the home and family. Men, with their propensity to compartmentalize challenges and anxieties, found fulfillment in providing for and protecting their families. Today, however, liberal women may be experiencing a form of psychological discomfort similar to what men faced in the past. They appear unhappy because they are not fulfilling traditional roles they may be biologically designed for, which could explain why many women feel less satisfied with their lives in a world that encourages the rejection of these roles. This suggests that, like men in the past, women may have been happier in the traditional "patriarchal" setup, where men provided and protected, and women nurtured their children and cared for the home.
In conclusion, the survey's findings highlight a stark reality: while liberal women have gained many opportunities and freedoms, they seem to have lost something vital in the process—contentment. The shift away from traditional gender roles, coupled with the rise of feminist ideologies, has led to increased loneliness and unhappiness among a large segment of women. The data points to a deeper issue: when societal norms are uprooted in pursuit of equality, the emotional well-being of women seems to be suffering as a consequence.
And we only have the globalist gender agenda of feminism and women's lib to blame. The happiness of women was never part of the grand conspiracy.
