The mechanism seems to be hacking affecting the thermal regulation of pagers, that had recently been purchased by Hezbollah, as they feared their mobile phones could be hacked, causing them to over-heat and explode. Another theory holds that the pagers had had the explosive PETN added to them in manufacture by Mossad. The astonishing thing here is the way that the technology which people carry in their pockets can be turned into weapons of mass destruction, assuming that the explosives were not added, and it was just exploding pagers.
