The Fall of Journalism By Bruce Bennett
Consider this headline from The Sydney Morning Herald:
“Another 'incel' shooter: yoga studio killer wanted to crucify 'American whores.”

Is it necessary to put in a headline the thoughts of a madman killer? Once the headline would have been “Tragic US Shooting at Yoga Studio.” But now, we have a postmodern populist spin on everything to draw as into the excitement, as if facts no longer matter, only the sound and fury, signifying, nothing. I am glad that our readers do not expect such crudeness in our reporting of the news; it would make me sad.
