Nine Woolworths stores in Sydney and Melbourne - including four CBD locations - have now been using a completely cashless system on a trial basis since July.
The supermarket chain told Daily Mail Australia the move was driven by its inner-city customers almost always choosing to pay by card.
Competitor Harris Farm has already stopped accepting cash at its Bondi Junction store.
'As more and more customers choose to pay with cards, we’re trialling all electronic payments in a small selection of Metro stores which currently see very few cash transactions,' a Woolworths spokesman said.
'We will closely monitor the feedback from our customers during this trial.'
The push by the supermarket giant to rid its stores of cash comes as the federal government attempts to criminalise large cash payments.
The Currency Bill 2019 would have prohibited hard cash payments of more than $10,000 before a motion by One Nation helped defeat the legislation in the Senate on Thursday.
Politicians are expected though to revive the bill once the COVID-19 pandemic is over after the government left the door open to another push to get it through parliament in the near future.
Supporters of the bill - which threatened Australians with two years in jail for using cash for purchases of $10,000 or more - said it would help stamp out money laundering.
But One Nation said the law focused only on criminalising legal tender for 'everyday Australians'.”
The control and elimination of cash, like Covid-control is all about people control. It is yet another plank in the globalists New World Order.
