Religion and the Joy of Sex! By Mrs Vera West
Of course, for most of us, sex is but a pleasant distant memory, but remember the wise words of Desiderata by Max Ehrmann, 1948:
“Desiderata
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
Relevant to today’s diatribe is the theme of gracefully surrounding ther things of youth. Anyway, talking of sex, there is evidence that the religious have better sex lives than the secular, which is a damning refutation of the 1960s sexual revolution:

“Men and women in 'highly religious' relationships are more likely to be happy with their sex lives, according to a new survey. Some 38 percent of married women and 33 percent of married men in 'highly religious' relationships say they strongly agree that they are satisfied with the sexual relationship they have with their partner, according to the survey of U.S. adults by the right-leaning Institute for Family Studies. That's significantly higher than the 23 percent of women and 20 percent of men in secular marriages who feel the same way. It also surpasses the satisfaction of men (28 percent) and women (22 percent) who are in less religious or mixed-religion marriages. Similarly when the study examined couples in 11 different countries, researchers found 68 percent of women and 64 percent of men in religious marriages report being very satisfied in the quality of their relationship. By comparison, just 50 percent of men and 42 percent of women in less religious or mixed religion relationships report high satisfaction. In addition, just 52 percent of women and 45 percent of men in secular relationships can say the same thing. The 11 countries surveyed were the U.S., Argentina, Australia, Chile, Canada, Colombia, France, Ireland, Mexico, Peru and the United Kingdom. 'In listening to the happiest secular progressive wives and their religiously conservative counterparts, we noticed something they share in common: devoted family men,' the authors wrote in a New York Times op-ed accompanying the release of the study.”
Naturally, the article had the obligatory photo of an interracial couple kissing, always a Northern European woman and a Black. Please, in this highly diverse multicult, can we have some racial variety, such as perhaps Chinese women with Black men, Eskimos with Bushman women, and anything else. Oh, can we have a bit more variety in movie villains, since it seems that the whiter the person, especially blondes, the more evil. Boring. On an associated theme, there is appearing a little material arguing that even some feminists are starting to see the downside of casual sex, largely from its commodification and depersonalisation, which I think is spot on.
