Pollution in India … and the World By Paul Walker

India is a fascinating place to visit, but one needs to be extremely careful what one eats, and drinks, especially water. Pollution is a major problem, and the environmentalists are silence about this because …  only whites … make pollution:

“As India's north continues to struggle with extreme pollution levels, the story has put a fresh spotlight on air quality in cities across Asia. Beijing has long been notorious for its smog - but statistics show that India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have worse air by far. So why is South Asia so much more polluted?

Asia's most polluted cities
Of the world's most polluted 30 cities, 22 are in India, according to research by IQ AirVisual, a Swiss-based group that gathers air-quality data globally, and Greenpeace. The remaining eight cities are all in Pakistan, Bangladesh and China - but the list doesn't include Beijing, which comes in at number 122. Just looking at global capitals, it's also Asian cities that top the ranking.’

“Air pollution in New Delhi and surrounding towns has reached the worst levels so far this year, with authorities in the capital having declared a public health emergency and ordered the closure of schools.
Key points:
•    New Delhi's Chief Minister said pollution levels had reached "unbearable levels"
•    Particulate matter in the air hit 900 PM 2.5 — way over the "severe-plus" ceiling of 500
•    The smog has been exacerbated by seasonal crop stubble burning and humidity
The air quality index (AQI), measuring levels of PM 2.5 — tiny particulate matter in the air — deteriorated to above 900, way over the 500-level that qualifies as "severe-plus" on Sunday. S***, I Smoke! — an app that uses pollution data to explain air quality via cigarette smoking — found that the Indian capital's present air quality was akin to smoking 33.2 cigarettes per day. Aside from the harm it was doing to the lungs of some 40 million people living in the capital region, the smog was so bad more than 30 flights were diverted from Delhi airport due to poor visibility. Roads looked deserted as large numbers of people stayed home, rather than expose themselves to the noxious atmosphere outside.”

“Officials have implored the people of New Delhi to stay inside, indefinitely. Five million children in India’s capital have been handed face masks. Everyone is to keep windows closed. Contrary to the most fundamental medical advice, the city’s chief minister urged residents this week to “avoid outdoor physical activities.” News images seem cut from an apocalyptic outbreak film. One of India’s holiest rivers is covered in toxic foam that looks like white cotton candy. Midday visibility is like a foggy dusk. The air reportedly causes people’s eyes to burn. Automotive and industrial emissions fill the air with nitrogen, sulfur dioxides, and “black carbon,” the latter of which includes tiny particles that penetrate deep into the lungs. Over the past days, levels in New Delhi have exceeded 10 times what the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency deems safe. (The idea that any level is “safe” is disputed, as even very low levels have been found to cause disease.) The effect is lethal, in India and beyond. Air pollution is the leading cause of premature death in parts of the world. It already accounts for more than a quarter of deaths from lung cancer and heart disease, according to the World Health Organization. A Lancet study found that particulate matter alone killed some 1.9 million people in Asia in 2015. In some parts of China, one in 20 deaths is due to bad air.’

The creation of a world where there is a shortage of air, clean breathable air, is a direct product of runaway population growth, and economic growth combined. The addiction of capitalism has put breathing down the scale of things. but, it is not much different in the West, only the time of free loading pollution has been pulled back a bit, as the corporates moved to countries like India to make their goods for Western consumers, and leaving the countries polluted.

It will be fitting, poetic justice if you like, that this civilisation perishes by drowning in its own excrement, physically and metaphysically.
