On Banning all Non-Aboriginal Religions? By Ian Wilson LL.B

Here is a petition before the Queensland parliament, which illustrates how mad things are getting:

“TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House certain religious organisations operating in Queensland have a prime belief that a supreme being created the Earth about 6000 years ago. This is an anathema to many sciences and in particular to Aboriginal culture which is 60,000 to 120,000 years old. The creationist religions effectively deny Aboriginal history and culture thereby breaching our racist vilification laws. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure that religious organisations preaching that a supreme being created the Earth about 6000 years ago not receive any State government assistance, exemptions, subsidies or funding.”

Well, there are many things wrong with this, the most notable being that any such law would be contrary to section 116 of the constitution:

The Commonwealth shall not make any law for establishing any religion, or for imposing any religious observance, or for prohibiting the free exercise of any religion, and no religious test shall be required as a qualification for any office or public trust under the Commonwealth. Clearly, banning Christian fundamentalism would violate section 116. But, even if this did not occur, there is the flood gates problem, that religions inconsistent with Aboriginalism, would get knocked over too. How about evolutionary materialism and atheism, that must reject the very idea of a “dream time”?

According to scientific materialism, the world was not created by the Spirits and the Ancestors, but by physical processes. The Aborigines are but a small part of this process. That too is in direct conflict with  Aboriginalism, so the petition would have to ban mainstream science as well. Maybe we will see this. Anything is possible today.
