Well, it is here, the latest Covid -19 variant, B.1.1. 529, Omicron, using the Greek alphabet, missing Nu and Xi. Not much is known about its effects, but has not stopped the authorities from across the world from going into the Covid freak-out mode once more. Here is some relevant material I have culled out from many hours of reading, mainly the same material repeated, endlessly, as the media pads up. We even have one anxious report that this is the next Big Thing, Covid-21!

“Urgent genomic testing is underway in NSW after passengers who arrived in Sydney from southern Africa overnight tested positive for Covid.
Authorities are scurrying to determine if two positive cases have been infected with the Omicron variant – a concerning new strain that reportedly has more than 30 mutations and been shown to be highly transmissible.
Fourteen passengers who arrived in Sydney travelled from one of nine southern Africa countries where the new variant has been spreading.
Omicron has been shown to spread rapidly, including between people who are double-vaccinated and scientists are determining if the new variant can reduce the protection of vaccines.
Australia swiftly moved to close its borders to a number of African countries overnight, after dozens of other countries imposed travel rules on southern Africa.
NSW and Victoria went a step further late Saturday evening, introducing a 72-hour isolation requirement for all vaccinated international arrivals, regardless of their departure destination.
The two infected people who arrived into Sydney were on Qatar Airways flight QR908 from Doha to Sydney, which landed on Saturday at 7pm.
These passengers have been transported to the Special Health Accommodation where they will undertake 14 days of quarantine, a spokesperson for the NSW government’s Ministry of Health said.
“Other passengers on the flight may be considered a close contact, and will be contacted and requested to get tested immediately, and isolate for 14 days in accordance with a public health order,” the spokesperson said.
“Close contacts will be contacted regularly, and compliance checks will be undertaken.”
Meanwhile, Northern Territory authorities have been waiting on test results for a confirmed Covid case to rule out the new variant.
About 20 travellers believed to have travelled from South Africa were repatriated last week and are currently quarantining at Howard Springs.
One person has so far tested positive.
There are currently no confirmed cases of the new variant in Australia but Britain, Germany, South Africa, Botswana, Belgium, Hong Kong and Israel have all recorded infections.
Authorities at home are attempting to track down at least 100 Australians who recently arrived home from the nine African nations without quarantine.
Those people will need to be tested, and quarantine immediately for 14 days.
Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt said Australia was “well-placed” to fight the Omicron challenge.
“(But) on the basis of medical advice, the Australian government will be implementing additional precautionary border security measures in order to protect Australians while more is learnt about the nature and impact of the Omicron variant of concern,” he said.
“There are currently no known cases of the Omicron variant in Australia.”
Now, two Omicron cases confirmed in NSW:
“The new ‘Omicron’ variant of COVID-19 was first detected in four people who were fully vaccinated, according to a public statement by the Botswana government.
The new variant, which some claim is three times more contagious, was initially discovered in Botswana before it spread across South Africa.
The news was met with global alarm, prompting financial markets to plummet and new travel bans to be put in place.
According to a public statement by the Botswana government, the new mutation was first discovered in four people who had received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
According to the report, four cases of the new variant “were reported and recorded” on November 22.
“The preliminary report revealed that all the four had been completely vaccinated for COVID-19,” according to Botswana authorities.
In a subsequent statement, the government revealed that the new variant “was detected on four foreign nationals who had entered Botswana on the 7th November 2021, on a diplomatic mission.”
The quartet tested positive for COVID-19 on the 11th November 2021 as they were preparing to return,” according to the statement.
In a piece of good news, others who had close contact with the infectees “have no COVID-19 symptoms and have tested negative for COVID-19.”
As we highlighted earlier, according to Belgian Prime Minister , the Omicron variant is so potentially devastating that it should be called ‘COVID-21’.
Meanwhile, South Africa’s medical chief Dr. Angelique Coetzee described the panic as a “storm in a teacup,” adding that she had only seen “very very mild cases” of the variant so far.””

“The Prime Minister of Belgium says the new mutant variant of coronavirus is so potentially devastating that it should be called ‘COVID-21’.
Yes, really.
Alexander De Croo made the comments during a press conference after international markets plummeted in response to the news that the ‘Nu’ variant of the virus had been discovered in Botswana and spread across South Africa.
“You could say that this is Covid-21 instead of Covid-19: it is three times more infectious than the original virus,” said De Croo.
His remarks came in the aftermath of sustained media panic over the new mutation and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) describing the variant as “the worst one we’ve seen so far.”
It was confirmed that the B.1.1.529 variant had reached Europe after it was detected in someone who had entered Belgium after traveling to Egypt.
Some European countries are already tightening COVID restrictions despite the fact that very little is known about the new strain and it could take weeks to determine if it is a major threat.
However, international alarm over the mutation was questioned by South Africa’s medical chief Dr. Angelique Coetzee, who described the response as a “storm in a teacup.”
According to Coetzee, South Africa has only recorded “very very mild cases” of the variant so far.”

“Further mutations of the Covid-19 virus could spawn a strain as contagious as Delta and as deadly as the Ebola virus. That's the stark warning from the World Medical Association.
Frank Ulrich Montgomery, chairman of the global physicians’ society the World Medical Association (WMA), shared his fears with Germany’s Funke media group’s newspapers on Saturday. He stressed the importance of not “giving the virus a chance” to mutate any further. To achieve this, it may be necessary to keep “vaccinating the world for years” to come, Montgomery said.
The Ebola virus, whose horrific effects on humans could be matched by a new covid strain just as the WMA chairman warns, was first discovered back in 1976 in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The deadliest outbreak to date occurred in West Africa between 2014 and 2016, claiming more than 11,000 lives. The disease brought on by the virus causes a severe fever and internal bleeding, with the average fatality rate being around 50%, according to the World Health Organization. Some of the known strains, however, have led to death in a terrifying 90% of all cases.
When asked about the situation in his homeland, Germany, Montgomery warned that the number of Covid infections is likely to double in the coming ten days. He also called for the introduction of stricter measures in the country, urging authorities to close all Christmas markets and to ban festivities, as well as fireworks. And, should the fourth wave of Covid still not let up, nationwide business closures and lockdowns may be necessary, the scientist forecast. Any measures taken now will only have a tangible effect in two weeks’ time and, along with the vaccination campaign, the delay could be as long as six weeks, he pointed out.
The bleak predictions come hard on the heels of the discovery of the new Omicron strain in southern Africa. On Friday, the World Health Organization formally designated Omicron a “variant of concern.” While scientists are still studying the novel strain, fears have already been voiced that the heavily mutated Covid variant could be more contagious than its predecessors.”
Mike Adams has given ten predictions for Omicron and 2022:
Prediction #1: Omicron variant hysteria will be used to reset everyone’s vaccine passports to zero, coercing people into a whole new round of vaccines for this new variant. Those stupid enough to go along with omicron variant vaccines will be signing up for a never-ending series of spike protein bioweapons injections, which will eventually kill them.
Prediction #2: Omicron hysteria will be exploited to justify aggressive vaccine mandates, demanding that this “new emergency” overrides all human rights, medical freedom and body autonomy.
Prediction #3: Although the omicron variant has so far only been found in fully vaccinated people, the lying corporate media will blame its origins on the unvaccinated.
Prediction #4: The omicron variant will be used as a cover story by the corporate media to try to explain away all the Antibody Dependent Enhancement (ADE) deaths caused by covid vaccines. Even as vaccinated people die in large numbers, the media will blame the unvaccinated (see #3, above) and demand that unvaccinated people be completely locked down and denied access to society.
Prediction #5: Omicron hysteria will be used to attempt to criminalize dissent against vaccines, mandates, government “authority” or the covid criminals behind the gain-of-function research, such as Anthony Fauci. All such dissenting speech will be designated a “danger to society,” and those who utter such speech will be accused of killing people.
Prediction #6: Mass hysteria pushed by the journo-terrorist media will justify governors ordering more lockdowns, leading to more supply chain failures, product scarcity and price inflation.
Prediction #7: If the media can push the omicron hysteria with enough ferocity, it will be used to either cancel the 2022 mid-term elections or demand universal mail-in voting, citing the “extreme dangers” of anyone going out in public.
Prediction #8: Every economic failure caused by the incompetent, criminal Biden regime will be blamed on omicron. This imaginary “variant” instantly becomes the scapegoat for sky-high energy prices, supply shortages and empty grocery store shelves. The media will blame everything on omicron, and then they will blame omicron on the unvaccinated.
Prediction #9: At some point, either the omicron variant or the next one that’s unleashed will be used to justify door-to-door mandatory vaccines in America, along with the medical kidnapping of anyone who resists, taking them away to covid concentration camps for efficient extermination. (This practice has already begun in Australia, where the military is kidnapping indigenous people and taking them away to camps at gunpoint.)
Prediction #10: Omicron won’t be the last variant that’s used to evoke mass hysteria and multi-billion dollar government payouts to Big Pharma. This scamdemic will be repeated every year or so, in perpetuity, for as long as the people remain in fear and go along with it.”
