Letter to The Editor - We need more individuals speaking out in public forums in defence of free speech
To The Australian Brendan O'Neill asks: "How can we convince the owners of social media to permit the freest speech possible?" ("We just outsourced censorship to Silicon Valley", 13/8) The answer relates to an old custom concerning public rights of way. Traditional rights of passage had to be maintained by people periodically walking the relevant tracks. We need more individuals speaking out in public forums in defence of free speech and especially free speech for currently shunned persons and groups. At the moment too much is being left to too few in Australia.
