Letter to The Editor - There is a war to wrongfully delegitimise our nation

To The Australian        Contrary to misrepresentations, British culture does indeed constitute Australia's core national identity ("Not British to the core any more", 20/2). That culture has given us our sacred tradition (Christianity), our language, our constitution, our parliamentary and judicial tradition and our free way of life. It is British culture which has made Australia a magnet for immigrants from nations all around the world. The claim that this central aspect of our identity is redundant is nonsense. We do not need to be decolonised, since we are already an independent nation. Nor is there any "inherent sovereignty" of the Aboriginal peoples. They lost control of this continent long ago and have no right whatever to take it back. There is a war to wrongfully delegitimise our nation. We Australians must defend our wonderful heritage and defeat this incipient revolution.
