Let the People Go! By James Reed

If the Chinese people do not want to remain in Australia because we are despicable white racists, well, best that they remain pure and leave this cursed place. I understand. My feelings are not hurt, being too primitive to feel shame.

“A diplomat at the Chinese embassy in Canberra has reportedly advised Chinese people to “seriously consider” whether they should invest or live in Australia.

The warning comes after new data showed Chinese investment in Australia plummeted by more than 60 per cent last year as relations between the two nations continued to sour.

According to the Australian National University’s Chinese Investment in Australia Database, Australia saw just $1 billion in investment from China in 2020, down from $2.6 billion in 2019 and a stunning collapse from the 2016 peak of $16.5 billion.

Meanwhile, Trade Minister Dan Tehan says a dispute over barley tariffs imposed by China last year will be escalated to the World Trade Organisation, after he was snubbed by his Chinese counterpart.

The state-run Global Times outlet on Tuesday published an article headlined “Is today’s Australia still suitable for Chinese to invest or live in?”, which highlighted a number of recent incidents of alleged “discrimination” and relayed the comments from the unnamed diplomat.

“A diplomat at the Chinese embassy in Australia, who asked for anonymity, warned Chinese in Australia, and those who wanted to live or invest in the country, to be vigilant about discrimination, malicious accusations and their safety,” the Global Times’ reporter in Canberra wrote.

“The anonymous diplomat said that under the current circumstances, it is better to seriously consider whether Australia is still the right place for Chinese people to come, and whether they want to invest in or immigrate to Australia.”

There were more than 650,000 Chinese-born people living in Australia at the end of June 2018, according to the Department of Home Affairs, making them the second largest migrant community after the United Kingdom.

They make up around 9 per cent of Australia’s overseas-born population and 2.6 per cent of the total population.”

Like most things said by Chinese officials, this is rich in wisdom. Confucius would surely agree. China is fast getting better universities than us, so why come to nth rate Australia anyway?
