Let’s Look at the 2024 Mexican Elections, to See a Wonderfully Diverse “Democracy” at Work! By Charles Taylor (Florida)
Readers from Australia, and the US are not likely to know much about what happened in the 2024 Mexico elections. Here is an outline of what sort a society exists in Mexico, and why we should not be surprised to see the Mexican lady president essentially defending the cartels with her threats against US gun manufacturers. Threats of further lawsuits will go on anyway, so this should be water off a duck's back to us.
The 2024 Mexican elections were marred by significant violence, with numerous politicians across various parties being assassinated. This wave of violence underscores the perilous environment in which Mexican political figures operate, often facing threats from organized crime and other hostile entities. At least those not in the pockets of the cartels.

Javier Torres Barrera (PAN): On July 13, 2023, Torres Barrera, an aspiring candidate for mayor of Chiautla de Tapia, Puebla, was kidnapped and murdered by armed assailants.

Diego Pérez Méndez (PRI): A precandidate for mayor of San Juan Cancuc, Chiapas, Pérez Méndez's body was found on March 14, 2024, alongside his wounded wife and son.
Post-Election Violence:
The violence extended beyond the election period. Notably, Alejandro Arcos, the mayor of Chilpancingo, Guerrero, was assassinated just six days after taking office in October 2024. His decapitation highlighted the brutal tactics employed by local criminal organizations and underscored the ongoing security crisis in regions like Guerrero.
This series of targeted killings reflects the dangerous climate for political figures in Mexico, where organised crime and political interests often intersect violently. Indeed, there is no real sharp division between the government and organised crime, so extensive the criminal tentacles are. If Trump is to stop the cartels, they must be declared as terrorist organisations. And military action taken, as the Mexican government, from the top down, are not going to cut off part of themselves!
