Killing Me Softly with Chemo by Mrs Vera West

A study by M. Wallington (et al.), “30-Day Mortality after Systemic Anticancer Treatment for Breast and Lung Cancer in England: A Population-Based, Observational Study,” The Lancet Oncology, September 2016, presented some alarming news about chemotherapy.

Chemotherapy drugs have killed up to 50 percent of patients in some hospitals, within 30 days of starting chemotherapy. They died from the drugs rather than the cancer. It was found that 8.4 percent of patients with lung cancer and 2.4 percent of breast cancer patients died within 30 days of starting chemotherapy, but some hospitals had death rates of up to 50.9 percent. These hospitals have been asked by Public Health England (PHE) to review their practices, given that chemo drugs are “powerful medications(s) with significant side effects,” and that there are “potentially life threatening downsides to chemotherapy”:
