It is Down with White Jesus Now! By James Reed

The deconstruction of Jesus is not new, and has been going on in theology since the Enlightenment, getting crazier by the generation. What is new is the explosion of racial resentment and anti-whiteness radiating everywhere like a nuclear bomb was detonated, and in many ways, it has:

“Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury and head of the Church of England, has said the church should reconsider its portrayal of Jesus as a White man. Speaking to the BBC Today Programme, Welby was asked whether the way the western church "portrays Jesus" needed to be "thought about again" and "re-imagined" in light of recent Black Lives Matter protests following the death of George Floyd. "Yes, of course it does," he said, adding that Jesus was portrayed differently in countries around the world. He was regularly in touch with Anglican Church leaders from around the world, he said, who did not portray Jesus as White. "You go into their churches and you don't see a White Jesus -- you see a Black Jesus, or Chinese Jesus, or a Middle Eastern Jesus -- which is of course the most accurate. "You see a Fijian Jesus -- you see Jesus portrayed in as many ways as there are cultures, languages and understandings." Welby added that the representations of Jesus were not, however, "who we worship" but rather served as a "reminder of the universality of the God who became fully human."

Britain's imperialist monuments face a bitter reckoning amid Black Lives Matter protests Addressing calls for monuments with links to the UK's imperialist history and slave trade to be removed, he said statues in Canterbury Cathedral would be put under review. "We're going to be looking very carefully, and putting them in context and seeing if they all should be there," he said. "The question [about whether they should all be there] arises, of course it does, and we've seen that all over the world." The movement to take down and deface controversial statues has gained traction in the UK, as well as Europe and the US but has divided public opinion -- with critics slamming it as "mob rule" while others applaud it as a way of addressing "systematic racism."”

And the statues of Jesus are coming down:

“It was only a matter of time before the out-of-control PC statue police started coming after statues of Jesus. Apparently, inspiring generations of people the world over to love their neighbors as themselves is not enough to appease liberals, and he definitely hasn’t been tweeting in support of Black Lives Matter. The “cancel culture” has gone completely off the rails. Nothing is safe anymore: TV shows, maple syrup, classic films, cereal boxes, and now, the savior to millions of people around the world, as some say that depicting Jesus and his family as Caucasian is a type of racial oppression and that all of these images need to be destroyed. Liberal civil rights activist and Black Lives Matter supporter Shaun King posted on Twitter: “Yes, I think the statues of the white European they claim is Jesus should also come down. They are a form of white supremacy. Always have. . . . Tear them down.’’ As someone who walked the earth before photography existed, the truth is that nobody knows exactly what color Jesus’s skin was, although scholars note that most people had olive skin in the time period and part of the world in which he lived. Nevertheless, as New York Post columnist Andrea Peyser points out, artists around the world tend to depict Jesus and other biblical figures in ways that resemble the people in their area. Artwork of Jesus in Europe often portrays him as being white, while in the Far East, he is often made to look Asian; Ethiopians depict him as black.

It’s especially odd to target statues for this “crime” because they don’t generally depict skin color at all. But don’t worry – King isn’t just calling for the statues to go. He added: “All murals and stained glass windows of white Jesus, and his European mother, and their white friends should also come down, They are a gross form [of] white supremacy. Created as tools of oppression. Racist propaganda.” At first, radical leftists were only going after historical figures who owned slaves, which some people may have been willing to give them a pass for, despite not agreeing with the way they were going about it. The next thing we know, they’re knocking down statues of people who ended slavery and fought for black rights -– if the statue depicts a white guy, it’s fair game. And now they want to go after all statues and other depictions of Jesus, but only if he looks white. How is that not racist?”

Sure it is “racist” but not by the standards of the woke folk. The big question though is: will Christians continue to take this, like weak, meek little mice? And if this, where will a line be drawn where they say: no more! Or, do they choose to be utterly destroyed, to remain politically correct?
