Is the United States Heading to a Dictatorship? By Ian Wilson LL.B
Following on from my previous article on the rule of law and pre-emptive pardons, I was asked to consider the question whether the US is heading to a dictatorship. To this I think the correct answer is no, the US was on the brink of being a dictatorship, but the election of Trump, for all his imperfections, and these are numerous, at least pulled America and the West back from the edge. I believe much of the writing at the blog over the last few years confirms this thesis that the US either was, or was close to being a dictatorship under the Biden regime, and certainly would have become so under Harris. The main argument is that the rule of law was discarded and pure political thuggery ruled.
First, there was the issue of the stolen 2020 election. There were scores of articles at this blog detailing the arguments as to why election fraud took place, and there are many videos of the dirty tricks out there. The US Supreme Court to its shame did not grant standing to the state of Texas to hear the fraud case, which is a very clear failure of the rule of law, since surely a state does have standing in such an issue. The Court simply did not want to cause social controversy, being half Leftoids.
Second, there is the issue of the January 6 prisoners, said to be in an insurrection merely by entering the Capitol building. Tucker Carlson showed footage that police had allowed these people in, so they were invited. Then they were arrested, placed in terrible jails without fair trials. Ashli Babbit, an ex-service woman who was merely trying to get through a window was gunned down by a cop; I saw the video at the time, and it was cold blooded murder in my opinion. There was no murder charge, and I think the cop got some award later for his work!
Then there began lawfare against Trump. The New York Attorney General had got one of its laws, making false disclosures of certain expenditures, into a felony. They then used Trump's alleged payments of hush money to a porn star as a means to conduct electoral fraud. It was never clear what the law on this was, how exactly election fraud arose. But, if convicted on multiple counts Trump faced about 100 years in prison! Fortunately, while being found guilty by a corrupt New York jury, Trump was elected president, and the trial judge did not sentence Trump. That would have been civil war 2.0
One of the key elements of a dictatorship is the rule of law, that law governs men, gets sidelined. This is exactly what occurred with the Biden regime over many areas. It was also seen in the pre-emptive pardons to people like Dr Fauci and the Biden crime family. This differs from the January 6 pardons by Trump, as these people were convicted, but it was seen that there was a miscarriage of justice that the president had to correct. The Biden pardons were to people not yet charged with any crime, and it stands as a direct insult to th judicial process, stopping investigation.
There has been a disturbing movement against freedom of speech across the West, including in Australia. Trump in the first four days of his presidency has for America, done much to restore freedom again. Hence, I maintain that the US has moved away from being a dictatorship, just in the nick of time!
For those interested in constitutional law from the Australian perspective I strongly recommend the YouTube videos by Professor Anne Twomey, who debunks a lot of bush lawyer material that is circulating and leading good people astray:
