Transgender, Multicultural Vikings? Refuting Pseudoscience Parts I, II, and III Part III: Understanding Nordic Origins By Brian Simpson Part III

I turn now to comments on a number of studies with relevant material on the question of Nordic/Northern European origins. Some of these studies have methodological limitations and flaws, but are still relevant to the present study. Unlike the material considered in part II of this series, these studies are at least based within mainstream science, rather than postmodernist Leftism, or whatever bs.

First we consider, P. Rincon, “Stonehenge: DNA Reveals Origins of Builders,” April 16, 2019:

https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-47938188.

This discusses, S. Brace (et al.), “Ancient Genomes Indicate Population Replacement in Early Neolithic Britain,” Nature Ecology & Evolution, vol. 3, 2019, pp. 765-771. Neolithic inhabitants who built Stonehenge, reached Britain about 4,000 BC. Their DNA resembled Neolithic peoples from Iberia, who originally migrated from the Mediterranean. They introduced building with megaliths. At the time, Britain was occupied by groups of “Western Hunter-Gatherers,” but the groups did not interbreed much. These Western Hunter Gatherers were replaced by the Neolithic Farmers. As is now predictable, the academics claim that this genetic disappearance was not accountable by warfare, but due to “economic factors,” such as “which lifestyles were best suited to exploit the landscape.” That is incredible, since both groups had sufficient time, to adapt to their environments, otherwise they would have been eliminated sooner. If the Western Hunter Gatherers did not know how to survive in their environment, they would have disappeared long before the stone draggers arrived on the scene. Thus, conflict is the more plausible explanation, but that is way too macho for today’s politically correct climate.

In any case, the British Western Hunter Gatherers included the famous Cheddar Man, allegedly with darkish skin and blue eyes. The Neolithic farmers were fairer, with lighter skin, brown eyes, and dark brown hair. Looks like Cheddar man got cheesed!

  1. Burger (et al.), “Low Prevalence of Lactose Persistence in Bronze Age Europe Indicates Ongoing Strong Selection over the Last 3,000 Years,” Current Biology, vol. 30, 2020, p. 1-9, discusses evidence of 14 warriors from the Tollense Bronze Age battlefield in northern Germany, approximately 3,200 years BP. “Genetic data indicate that these individuals represent a single unstructured Central/Northern European population.” (p. 1) Another sample was from 18 individuals from the Bronze Age site, Mokrin, in Serbia (~ 4,100 to ~ 3,700 BP, and 37 individuals from Eastern Europe and the Pontic-Caspian Steppe region (~ 5,980 to ~ 3,980 BP). All of three regions showed low lactose persistence, so that the “surge” in the allele causing lactose persistence among Eurasians, rs4988235-A, was not likely to be caused by expansion from the Steppes. As Brett Stevens notes, there was no “Eurasian invasion” and the “Cromagnid-Nordic Germanics are the original population of Europe, and all of the other groups are simply degraded or admixed versions of these.”

Brian Sykes, Saxons, Vikings and Celts: The Genetic Roots of Britain and Ireland, (W. W. Norton, New York, 2006), reports on the drilling for DNA of a 12,000 year-old tooth found in the limestone caves of the Cheddar Gorge (not the famous Cheddar man, yet). His teams’ DNA studies indicated that the ancestors of the native Europeans were hunter gatherers and not farmers from the Middle East. (p.10) The DNA of the Cheddar tooth was found to be virtually identical to modern Europeans, and this helped debunk the Middle East migration hypothesis, supporting a hunter gatherer ancestry for Europeans. Testing of the famous Cheddar Man DNA, found it to be “modern” too. (p. 11) One of the local history teachers, Adrian Targett, was a close DNA match. (p.11)

Google images reveals that this individual does not have the dark skin that the media propaganda pushed for Cheddar Man, to thump us with the “we are one race” line.

Now back to the Vikings. The woke were exceedingly “awoken” by this paper: A. Margaryan (et al.), “Population Genomics of the Viking World,” Nature, vol. 585, 2020, pp. 390-396. Media coverage had it that this rewrote the history books, yet again, something all scientific papers in this field somehow are said to do.

One media claim was there was significant gene flows from Southern Europe and even Asia!

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2020/09/200916113544.htm

One can search the paper for evidence of gene flow from Asia, whatever that means. All I could find in the original paper was “we observed gene flow from the south and east into Scandinavia starting in the Iron Age and continuing throughout the duration of the Viking age.” (p. 395) What does that mean, scientifically? How much gene flow, and how fast? The directions are vague; where exactly? To investigate, let us turn to the original paper, not the media bs.

The research involved the sequencing of the genomes of 442 humans from archaeological sites across Europe and Greenland, dating from 2,400 BC to 1600 AD, which is long after the Viking Age, which arguably ended in 1066 AD. But, early in the paper we get the motivation: “The Viking diaspora was characterized by substantial transregional engagement: distinct populations influenced the genomic make ups of different regions of Europe, and Scandinavia experienced increased contact with the rest of the continent.” (p. 390)

They found that some of the skeletons were not of Scandinavian genetic ancestry, which commits them to the existence of a Scandinavian ancestry to begin with. (p. 392) Two individuals buried in Scandinavia were genetically similar to the Irish/Scots of today. (p. 392) And, two others from Orkney were 50 percent Scandinavian. (p. 393). We are not told about the Chinese Viking hybrids, sadly! And sadder still, for the multiracial fanatics, with regards to the Greenland Viking settlements, “sexual interaction between the Greenland Norse populations and these other groups was absent, or occurred on a very small scale.” (p. 393) Well, if the Vikings were going to miscegenation on any large scale, it would have happened here. What was found though was exactly the opposite, despite media propaganda, of “shared phenotypes between ancient Viking and present-day Scandinavian populations.” (p. 394) Also: “[w]ithin Scandinavia, most present-day populations resemble their Viking counterparts.” (p. 395) So much for the multiracial Viking hypothesis!

Let us turn now to a methodological critique of the study. Scientific studies are only as good as their data, and in a study like this one, the sample needs to be representative to establish valid conclusions about the population. Thus, the study’s data is 442 human skeletons from various sites across Europe and Greenland. That is a vast territory to begin with. But, what makes things even worse for the statistical validity of the study, is that the time period considered is from the Bronze Age (2400 BC) to the Early modern period (1600 AD), with the actual Viking Age being only a small part of that period. And, the period is 4,000 years! So we are to take 442 individuals over 4,000 years, some of them, if not most of them, not appearing in the Viking Age, and make genetic conclusions about the Viking Age … go figure! Surely over that long time period there would be at least 442 visitors, slaves or travellers, who one way or another ended up buried in the graves that were found.

Conclusion

Medieval studies has been subject to political correctness and cultural Marxism, with the attack dogs of war of the Left going after the idea of a white past, which they attack as part of the agenda of destroying the present and future. The only solution to this, is to not defund the police, but to defund the universities, not just the Arts/Farts, but everywhere the blood poison of political correctness flows.

The main conclusion from this study is that it is not the police that need defunding, but the universities. Many who propose that are concerned only in eliminating the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. But I think a more comprehensive clean out is needed, given the level of cultural Marxist toxins circulating in the system today.
