Philosophy is Finished By James Reed

     I had a hard time trying to see any rational, logical justification for this one: Oxford University’s philosophy department is going to “feminise” its course so that the women will pour in, like the Oxford rain:

“Oxford University will “feminise” its philosophy curriculum in order to appeal to more female students and boost writers’ profiles. The university’s Faculty of Philosophy requested that 40 per cent of the recommended authors on its reading lists are women. Academic staff have also been asked to use writers’ first names when compiling reading lists instead of their initials, in order to highlight those that were written by women. It aims to increase the appeal of philosophy to female students, according to the Daily Telegraph. As part of the changes, the university is also introducing an undergraduate paper on feminist philosophy and has appointed new academics to teach it.”

     I cannot see how a course could be composed of 40 percent female philosophers, unless minor figures are elevated to key status. Certainly, historically there are very few female philosophers both East and West. The feminist will say that this was because of patriarchy, blah, blah… but, who cares? In general academic philosophy is a pretty useless topic anyway, and although it is not dripping with politically correct ideology as much as other Arts/Farts subjects, contributes nothing to solving the problems of today. Socrates would surely be one of my followers in wanting to see it eliminated from the “academy” and with the rot of the modern university, would also see the closing of its doors, a very good thing.

     He would drink the hemlock from just a day in a modern university. By the way, if you look at the philosophy staff lists for Oxford University, there are still too many males there for feminist tastes. Perhaps sacking them first would be the first move to make.  Make an all-female department, preferably of women of colour, most from Africa, to correct for the sins of colonialism. See how the philosophers like the dole lines, since a philosophy degree no longer is good enough for taxi driving, a profession dominated by foreign labour now:

     Then again, when we see what the students of today are up to, just like the boomer 60s generation, bashing those conservatives who politically disagree with them, we should not be surprised to see such developments, for the enemy now dwells within:
