If the US Designates Mexican Drug Cartels as Terrorist Organisations, Mexico Will Go After US Gun Manufacturers! By Charles Taylor (Florida)
This is an indication of how corrupt Mexican society is, and the political influence of the drug cartels. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has issued a warning that if the United States designates Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations, Mexico may expand its legal actions against U.S. gun manufacturers. This statement comes in response to discussions within the U.S. about labelling these cartels as foreign terrorist organizations (FTOs), a move that could have significant diplomatic and legal ramifications. My summary of the situation:
Background:
U.S. Consideration of FTO Designation: The U.S. government, under President Donald Trump, has been contemplating the designation of Mexican drug cartels as FTOs. This initiative aims to combat drug trafficking and related violence affecting U.S. national security.
Mexico's Legal Actions: In response to the proliferation of firearms used by cartels, the Mexican government has previously filed a $10 billion lawsuit against major U.S. gunmakers, accusing them of negligent business practices that facilitate the smuggling of weapons into Mexico. This lawsuit has progressed through the U.S. legal system, with the Supreme Court agreeing to hear the case. The US legal system is being used against the country, as usual, with no consideration that the arms are coming from the Ukraine, as detailed in another article at the blog today.
Potential Implications of FTO Designation:
Expanded Legal Actions: President Sheinbaum indicated that if the U.S. proceeds with the FTO designation, Mexico would consider broadening its lawsuit against U.S. gun manufacturers, potentially holding them accountable for contributing to cartel-related violence.
Sovereignty Concerns: The Mexican government has expressed concerns that such a designation could lead to unilateral U.S. military actions on Mexican soil, undermining Mexico's sovereignty and potentially escalating violence.
Diplomatic Relations: The move could strain U.S.-Mexico relations, complicating cooperation on security and economic matters.
Current Status:
As of now, the U.S. has not officially designated Mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations. Discussions and debates continue within the U.S. administration and Congress, weighing the potential benefits of such a designation against the possible diplomatic fallout and unintended consequences. Hopefully the trump administration will have some guts in this one.
Trump needs to take an even harder line with Mexico which through funnelling illegals through its open border as well, has been a greater national security threat to the US than any other country, but to date have been given a free ride, as a decadent US New Class likes cheap illegal labour, and the drugs. If necessary, military action will be required. The real fight is right here, not in Europe, as more US citizens have died from the drugs allowed over the border, than in previous wars.
