How Will They Monitor the Social Media Ban? By Mrs. Vera West

I notice that one of my admired alternative journalists, Rebekah Barnett has a piece where she thinks that there will probably be no Digital ID needed to access social media with the ban of under 16-year-olds, now law. But there are still liberty and privacy issues, unaddressed: https://news.rebekahbarnett.com.au/p/no-digital-id-will-not-be-required

"Australians will not have to present a Digital ID or other form of government ID to use social media under new laws setting the minimum age of social media access to 16.

The Labor Government's world-first legislation will require all Australians to prove that they are over the age of 16 to create social media accounts, leading to fears that the bill is a Trojan horse for government Digital ID - a valid concern for those who prefer to avoid a Black Mirror social credit style future."

Barnett points out that amendment made to the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Bill 2024, will prevent social media from forcing people to use a Digital ID or other governmental ID. But without this ID it is likely that there will be biometric measures taken, such as facial scans, maybe fingerprints. All that is information no-one should trust to be out there in cyber-space.

So, I suppose it will just have to be goodbye social media. Pity, Messenger was convenient to contact grand kids.
