Good News from the Victorian Opposition! By James Reed

With bad news on the Covid front coming in from our correspondents in Americas and Europe, let us start today on a bright note of radiant optimism, as our Victorian opposition are starting to get a rudimentary back bone, and intend to pressure the tyrannical government, to rule out booster shot mandates, only mandate masks in high-risk locations, and end high density limits. It is a good start, but they should have been more active, much sooner, before so much social and economic damage was done.

“The Victorian opposition will pressure the state government to rule out booster mandates, end density limits and only mandate masks in high-risk locations.

Liberal leader Matthew Guy will on Sunday call for the state government to adopt the plan which would also include suspending QR code check-ins for low-risk areas and ruling out any more lockdowns.

The Liberal-National Coalition joined the City of Melbourne in calling on public servants and businesses to return to offices to help bring life back into the CBD.

The Labor state government under Premier Daniel Andrews strongly recommended people work from home due to the spike in Covid-19 cases, mostly caused by the Omicron variant.

The opposition will also say the state government should immediately redirect its advertising into a 'comprehensive vaccination advertising campaign' supporting Covid-19 vaccine booster shots.

But under Mr Guy's proposal, booster shots would not be required to be deemed fully vaccinated - something Mr Andrews has suggested would become the case.

Mr Guy said with more than 93 per cent of eligible Victorians vaccinated the state needed a plan to recover from the pandemic.

'Victorians won't recover and rebuild under more back-to-the-future mandates, lockdowns and restrictions. Now is the time for a new approach,' he told the Herald Sun.

'For two years, families and local communities have trusted the system and followed the rules. Now is the time for the government to trust them and let them get on with their lives.
