Get a Yates Garden Guide! By Mrs Vera West
One very important book for Australians is the famous Yates Garden Guide. I am sure that it is still in print, and I have the 42nd edition from 2006.
Topics covered include designing and planning your garden, preparing and maintaining it, organic gardening, water-saving gardens, dealing with pests, diseases and weeds, and masses of information about what to grow and when, all definitive. Being in print since 1895, first published by Arthur Yates, this book has long ago had all of its bugs ironed out, so to speak. It is highly reliable, and I trust it. Most of the books from North America deal with plant issues that are not directly relevant to Australia, but here is the real thing. I strongly recommend it for all setting out into the wonderful world of gardening. It really is the ultimate survival book, because you are what you eat.
