Does Woke Have Any Shame? By Mrs Abigail Knight (Florida)
The issue discussed in the article from Geller Report, titled "KINDERGARTEN CONDOMS: Maryland Democrats Push Bill to Put VENDING MACHINE CONDOMS in KINDERGARTEN," centres on a controversial piece of legislation in Maryland known as House Bill 380 (HB 380). The article claims that Maryland Democrats are pushing a bill to install vending machines dispensing condoms in schools, including kindergartens, framing it as an alarming and outrageous policy, which it is.
HB 380, sponsored by Delegate Nicole Williams (D-Prince George's County), was passed by the Maryland House of Delegates on February 21, 2025, with a vote of 89-41. The Bill repeals a decades-old Maryland law (Criminal Law §10-105) that classified selling contraceptives, such as condoms, through vending machines in schools—including kindergarten, nursery, elementary, and secondary schools—as a misdemeanour punishable by a $1,000 fine. The legislation removes this criminal penalty, effectively decriminalising the sale of contraceptives via vending machines in these settings. It does not, however, mandate that schools install such vending machines; the decision is left to individual school districts, who if they are Left will take it for sure.
Supporters of the Bill, including Delegate Williams, argue that the existing law is outdated and that removing the penalty modernises Maryland's approach to reproductive health. They emphasise that it provides flexibility for schools, particularly in areas with high rates of teenage pregnancy or sexually transmitted infections, to offer discreet access to contraception if they choose. Williams has stated on the House floor that the Bill is not about forcing schools to act but about eliminating an unnecessary criminal restriction, saying, "It's a really simple bill. All it does is remove a criminal penalty. It's not dictating to anyone what they should or should not do."
Critics, including Republican lawmakers like Delegate Kathy Szeliga, have strongly opposed the Bill, dubbing it "Condoms for Kiddies" and warning that it could lead to condom vending machines in preschools and elementary schools. Szeliga, a grandmother, expressed concern about young children encountering these machines and the potential for "oversexualisation," asking how parents would explain condoms to a kindergartener. Republicans attempted to amend the Bill to limit its scope to high schools, but the amendment was rejected (92-40), leaving the legislation applicable to all public-school levels. The Bill has since moved to the Maryland Senate, where, given the Democrat-controlled majority, it is expected to pass and could be signed into law by Governor Wes Moore, taking effect October 1, 2025.
While the Bill as an Act will not mandate condom vending machines in kindergartens, one can bet that putting them there by the woke Left, will be irresistible.
