“Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young says residents have 12 days to get their first vaccine dose in order to be fully protected by the state’s December 17 border reopening.

“You’ve got – as the premier said – 12 days to do it – because after that, we will be bringing in virus through the borders in vaccinated people,” Dr Young said at a media conference on Tuesday.

She said while those vaccinated may still be able to be infected and transmit the virus, it is very unlikely they will end up in hospital.

“So every single Queenslander is going to get exposed to the COVID-19 virus and will get infected but if you’re vaccinated that’s not a problem,” she said.”
