WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Kristinn Hrafnsson on the other hand has claimed that Assange’s health is improving and he is no longer being held in solitary confinement. Hrafnsson spoke to journalists ahead of next week’s court hearing on the US extradition request. Assange’s health has been worrying his supporters for a while now. Nils Melzer, the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, visited Assange in prison in May 2019, and reported that the journalist showed “all the symptoms typical of prolonged exposure to psychological torture”.

     President Trump has done nothing to fulfil his election promises, and as far as immigration goes, has done exactly the opposite, inflaming the pro-immigration forces to turn up the heat. But, at least we know where we stand. But, he has been useful as a speaker, saying things that others cannot say in this world of unending censorship, especially about Europe.      Dr Finkel (Australia’s Chief Scientist) is wrong - hydrogen will never be a “hero fuel source”. Australia has no gas wells producing hydrogen – every bit of hydrogen we use must be generated by electrolysis of water or manufactured from natural gas or coal. These processes consume energy some of which could be recovered by using the hydrogen as a fuel to power cars or generate electricity. We could use solar or wind energy to generate hydrogen, but then they cannot generate electricity for consumers, industry and the millions of electric cars our political scientist also supports. Burning hydrogen fuel is not even a zero-sum energy game – it is a negative-sum game, Dr Finkel. We can never get back the energy used to make the hydrogen. And as for using hydrogen as a fuel for long distance trucks how does he propose to confine this dangerous, elusive, hard-to-handle, explosive gas without a complete replacement of everything in our massive diesel-powered transport industry including service stations, fuel lines, tanks and motors? It will create jobs, but only while the sucker cash lasts. Hydrogen is the fuel of the sun, but not a net source of energy for Earth.

To The Age         The Victorian Government is entering areas more appropriately left to the federal government ("State flags new native title deal for spiritual loss", 15/2). The business of treaty-making is properly left to the national government, representing all Australians, all of whose interests are at stake. Operating at state level, as the Andrews government is doing,  is potentially divisive for Australia in a most serious way. One suspects that state governments are acting this way simply because they know a Coalition federal government will not inappropriately squander millions of dollars of taxpayers' money on dubious claims about "spiritual loss" or in other unjustifiable ways.

“Home secretary Priti Patel has ordered officials to explain what has happened to a long-awaited review into the ethnicity of grooming gangs, HuffPost UK has learnt. Just over one percent,” Byrne said. “Who pays for the rest? States and local school systems.” Bryne went on: So, we require it and we push 99 percent of the costs on state and local school systems. That costs a lot of money for these state and local school systems. Many of them like my state of Alabama just don’t have it. But because the federal government requires it, they have to put that money in there to the detriment of other programs. That cost is not being borne by those of us in Washington. It’s being borne by men and women and the states and local school systems around the United States of America. But really the cost is being borne by children who are being denied the programs that they should have. Children who are citizens of the United States, whose parents are citizens of the United States, they’re being denied programs because we’re forcing their state and local school systems to take on an expense that we should be taking on because we’ve failed to enforce our own laws. The Chinese authorities, according to Le Figaro, have asked the representatives of all the main religions in the country to review the Chinese translations of their religious texts so that they conform with "the requirements of the new era." The report in French news stemming from Beijing highlights "Jesus Christ's parables" will have to fall "in line with the Communist Party, failing which they run the risk of being purged from the bibles available to the faithful." The Bible and Christianity are apparently not alone in being targeted, with the authorities setting their sights on all major religions, requiring a "sinicisation" of the Quran, the holy book of the Islamic faith, and the sutras found in Buddhism. The bizarre requirement, which French newspaper Valeurs Actuelles noted "even the Soviets had not dared" to put forward, took place during a meeting on November 6. The authorities apparently want "a complete reevaluation of existing translations of religious classics". If some texts are found not to confirm, they will have to be "modified and translated again." The representatives of the various religions practised in China were reportedly summoned to the meeting after China's 4th Plenum. Reuters describes China's Plenum as a meeting of the country's roughly 370-person Central Committee "to discuss improving governance and 'perfecting' the country's socialist system". The Chairman of the assembly, Wang Yang, reportedly underlined "the fundamental importance of the interpretation of the religious rules and doctrines" so as to be able to "gradually form a religious ideological system with Chinese characteristics."

To be Furthest Right requires that one accept conservatism as a core idea, which is that we reject the human in favor of time, logic, and fact. That means less reliance on the symbolic, social, and emotional bubble in which most people live, and more focus on what works. Conservatism consists of two planks: realism and transcendence. This takes us away from utilitarianism, or choosing our future actions by what most humans say they think is best, and all symbolic ideologies.

To The Australian        In her promotion of a practical referendum for Aboriginal constitutional recognition ("Referendum must be practical, not symbolic", 7/2) Shirleen Morris misrepresents the nature of conservative opposition to any such recognition. It is not that there is a fear of "legal uncertainty", but that the whole idea is seen as dangerously divisive and powered by a long-term plan for total separatism involving two discrete national states on this continent. The project is clearly against the interests of the great majority of Australians. Morris also misidentifies its conservative opponents. Those she names are all supporters of constitutional change. The real conservatives are those who oppose any separatist policies, including the enacting of treaties. We need a more scrupulous as well as a more open debate to precede any referendum; and the government must ensure that the "No" case is fairly represented and funded.
