Biden, Anti-Guns and the Assassination of Shinzo Abe By Chris Knight (Florida)

This story is dating a bit now, but still worth covering. So much goes on with Biden’s mental decline that critical focus is upon his mistakes. Yet, it was no mistake to use the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as an occasion to denounce “gun violence,” for political mileage for the Democrat push for total civilian gun elimination. The problem is that Japan is exactly the sort of society that the
Democrats are aiming for, but the assassin’s gun was a home workshop one. It would then be necessary to ban chemicals, and steel, and power tools too. In other words, ban everything. I suppose the Left are mas enough to do that too!

“President Joe Biden was sharply criticized Friday for using the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as an occasion to denounce "gun violence."

Abe, Japan's longest-serving premier, was shot and killed while speaking at a campaign event in the city of Nara. The assassin used a homemade gun.

What did Biden say?

Nearly 12 hours after Abe was shot and almost six hours after officials confirmed Abe had died, Biden released a statement commemorating Abe, whom Biden worked with as vice president.

"I am stunned, outraged, and deeply saddened by the news that my friend Abe Shinzo, former Prime Minister of Japan, was shot and killed while campaigning. This is a tragedy for Japan and for all who knew him," Biden said.

"I had the privilege to work closely with Prime Minister Abe. As Vice President, I visited him in Tokyo and welcomed him to Washington. He was a champion of the Alliance between our nations and the friendship between our people," he continued. "The longest serving Japanese Prime Minister, his vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific will endure. Above all, he cared deeply about the Japanese people and dedicated his life to their service. Even at the moment he was attacked, he was engaged in the work of democracy."

But it was the last part of the statement that drew intense criticism because Biden used the moment to mention "gun violence."

While there are many details that we do not yet know, we know that violent attacks are never acceptable and that gun violence always leaves a deep scar on the communities that are affected by it. The United States stands with Japan in this moment of grief. I send my deepest condolences to his family.

The inclusion of "gun violence" is particularly jarring because Japan imposes strict anti-gun laws, thus making gun violence in Japan almost nonexistent.””

“Japan has some of the most “restrictive” gun controls in the world – legal provisions that appeared not to prevent the assassination of former Prime Minister Abe Shinzo at the hands of an apparent lone gunman on Friday.

Abe, 67, was shot around 11:30 a.m. Friday while giving a speech in support of conservative legislative candidates in Nara, Japan. The incident was largely caught on video; authorities indicated that he died of cardiovascular failure after being shot with an apparent firearm in the neck, as Breitbart News reported.

The Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun noted a high school student, witness to the shooting, said a man approached Abe from behind while holding what appeared to be a “bazooka.” (The Associated Press reports the weapon was “a double-barreled device that appeared to be a handmade gun.”)

The man shot once and apparently missed – and “Abe continued speaking.”

The man fired again and Abe collapsed.

AFP quoted Nara Medical University hospital Professor Hidetada Fukushima saying, “Shinzo Abe was transported to (the hospital) at 12:20pm. He was in a state of cardiac arrest upon arrival. Resuscitation was administered. However, unfortunately he died at 5:03 pm.”

Japan has some of the most stringent gun controls in the world.

The University of Sydney’s gunpolicy.org labels Japan’s gun controls as “restrictive” and notes they include an handgun ban, an “assault weapons” ban, and a ban on private gun sales.

Certain rifles and shotguns are the only guns that the Japanese people are allowed to own, but the process to legally obtain one of those is arduous. For example, a would-be rifle or shotgun owner must first acquire a gun owner’s license and that process includes passage of a criminal and mental health background check, including third-party character references.

Moreover, the would-be gun owner’s family history is searched to ensure no proclivity to violence.”
