Better Being Miss Purr than Ms Woke! By James Reed

A controversy has erupted at Marsden State High School in Queensland, Australia, after reports surfaced that a teacher had been exhibiting unusual behavior, allegedly identifying as a cat in front of students! The teacher, informally dubbed "Miss Purr," has reportedly worn cat ears in class, hissed at students, and even licked her hands in a feline manner. Additionally, students claim that she has been growling and screeching when they are inattentive, leaving many feeling uncomfortable and confused. I imagine many teachers do this each day.

Concerns over her behavior quickly spread among parents, many of whom questioned the professionalism of such conduct in a school environment. Some parents voiced frustration that their children were being subjected to what they saw as bizarre and inappropriate behavior from an educator, as rightly they should.

The issue prompted a response from the Queensland Department of Education, which confirmed that the matter had been addressed by the school's leadership. The department emphasized that while they support inclusivity and diversity, teachers must adhere to professional standards of behavior in the classroom. The school principal reportedly had a discussion with the teacher, making it clear that such actions were unacceptable in a state school setting. I suppose he even gave her a plate of milk to lick.

This happy incident comes amid growing debates about identity expression and professional conduct in schools, with some seeing this as an extreme case of personal identity clashing with professional responsibilities. The situation has also sparked broader discussions about whether schools should accommodate non-traditional identities and behaviors or enforce strict professional boundaries for teachers. And how far does identity politics go?

For now, the Queensland education authorities have reassured parents that appropriate action has been taken, and there are no further concerns regarding the teacher's conduct in the classroom. So, what does this mean- it has all gone away? Has the kitty litter been put out?
