At the End of the Day, Leftism is Another Word for Psychopathology — And a Virus of the Mind
The American Thinker piece (link below) lands with force because it articulates what many sense but hesitate to say aloud: modern Leftism has long since ceased to function as a normal political philosophy. Instead, it operates as a secular religion fused with cult psychology and distinctly psychopathic tendencies. It demands absolute faith, punishes deviation as heresy, and displays a disturbing readiness to sacrifice actual human lives on the altar of abstract ideals.
From cradle to grave, this ideology spreads like a mind virus, Richard Dawkins' meme concept pushed to its most destructive extreme. It hijacks ordinary human impulses such as compassion, fairness, and status-seeking, then twists them into self-destructive rituals that propagate through education, media, institutions, and social platforms.
Healthy politics involves debating trade-offs, weighing evidence, and negotiating imperfect realities. Contemporary Leftism, by contrast, exhibits the classic traits of a high-control cult. It upholds sacred dogmas that remain immune to falsification: diversity is our strength, men can become women, climate apocalypse requires rationing meat for the elderly, and every disparity stems from systemic racism. Challenge any of these and you face excommunication as a bigot, denier, or far-right threat. Indoctrination begins early, as seen in real policies such as Welsh nurseries encouraged to report "racist" toddlers, children policed on skin colour and speech long before they master basic self-care. Scapegoating follows naturally, turning groups like the elderly into symbolic villains whose modest pleasures (a weekly meat allowance, for instance) must be curtailed for the greater climate good. Norms invert with unsettling consistency: biological males in women's sports, open borders paired with accusations of native "far-Right" extremism, and demographic replacement celebrated while noticing it draws condemnation. Sanity itself is recast as hatred; ordinary self-preservation reframed as extremism.
Beneath the surface lies a pronounced psychopathological dimension. Observers ranging from psychologists studying mass formation to evolutionary thinkers on ideological possession have noted how certain personality profiles — high neuroticism, dark triad traits (narcissism, Machiavellianism, psychopathy), and an insatiable hunger for moral superiority without personal accountability — gravitate toward radical Leftism. The ideology rewards virtue signalling over genuine virtue, the destruction of the successful and normal in pursuit of "equity," and the relentless expansion of state power masquerading as compassion. This bears little resemblance to classical liberalism with its emphasis on individual rights, free speech, and limited government. It is instead a totalising system that pathologises dissent and treats normal human patterns, sex differences, family structures, national identity, and statistical group outcomes, as moral failings requiring correction.
Like any effective cultural pathogen, it spreads through universities and schools as primary infection hubs, media and social platforms for rapid replication, and corporate HR departments and government bureaucracies for institutional capture. Once embedded in a host society, it weakens natural defences: secure borders, merit-based systems, free inquiry, and biological reality. Infected individuals display extraordinary cognitive dissonance, vigorously defending policies that demonstrably harm the very groups they purport to champion. Sweden's gang violence epidemic, French mayors inciting insurrection against democratic results, and the long cover-up of British grooming scandals are not anomalies. They are predictable features of a worldview that privileges narrative over observable reality.
Cults rarely conclude peacefully. When dogma collides with stubborn facts, true believers tend to double down rather than reconsider. The trajectory points toward escalating subjugation, hysteria, and mechanisms for removing the non-compliant or inconvenient, whether the elderly, native-born sceptics, or "problematic" thinkers. Twentieth-century precedents with communism and other utopian experiments offer grim reminders of where such logic ultimately leads, with millions paying the price.
The antidote, though simple in principle, proves difficult in practice: a relentless commitment to observable reality, open debate, individual rights, and unapologetic national self-interest. It requires mocking absurdities without apology, shielding children from ideological grooming, and defending biological truth, statistical honesty, and civilisational continuity.
At the end of the day, radical progressive Leftism is not merely mistaken on policy. It functions as a psychopathological mind virus that hijacks empathy and converts it into civilisational self-harm. Recognising it for what it is, not a legitimate competing vision but a dangerous cultural infection, marks the essential first step toward recovery. Societies that fail to develop effective antibodies will continue sacrificing their future on the altar of utopian delusions.
