Trump Now Fighting Anti-Christian Bias, By Charles Taylor (Florida)

Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump announced the creation of a White House faith office and a task force to combat what he described as anti-Christian bias within the federal government. He appointed Attorney General Pam Bondi to lead the initiative. Speaking at the National Prayer Breakfast at the U.S. Capitol, Trump called for unity and reflected on how his faith had deepened following two assassination attempts against him in the previous year. Yes, a near miss hitting one's ear would make one believe in God.

At a second prayer event in Washington, Trump took a more partisan stance, celebrating recent efforts to eliminate "woke" policies and emphasizing protections for Christians. He pledged that his administration would take immediate action against what he claimed was government discrimination against Christians, citing agencies like the Department of Justice (DOJ), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He vowed to fully prosecute anti-Christian violence and vandalism while ensuring religious rights nationwide.

Trump signed an executive order establishing the task force, which is responsible for identifying and terminating policies deemed discriminatory against Christians. He did not provide specific examples of such bias but has previously accused the Biden administration of targeting Christians.

The move comes after the Biden administration introduced strategies to combat anti-Muslim, anti-Arab, and antisemitic bigotry. However, Trump's new faith initiatives may raise constitutional concerns regarding the separation of church and state, as outlined in the First Amendment, which now doubt the anti-Christin Left lobbies will raise.

Trump, who has aligned himself closely with conservative Christianity, has often referenced a divine purpose behind his survival of an assassination attempt. White evangelical Christians, a crucial Republican voting bloc, have consistently backed him, and his policies have resonated with their concerns about cultural shifts in gender and family norms.

In addition to the task force, Trump announced the establishment of a White House Faith Office, led by Rev. Paula White, a longtime religious adviser. He also proposed a new commission on religious liberty and criticized the Biden administration for prosecuting anti-abortion advocates, framing it as religious persecution.

It is a much-needed step in the right direction. It would be good to see similar moves in Australia, but recent legislation, as covered today at the blog, goes right against this.
