The Unique Evil of Leftism: A Revolution Against Humanity, By Chris Knight (Florida)

Leftism, as Llewellyn Rockwell argues in his searing essay (republished September 15, 2025, see link below), is no mere political stance, it's a relentless engine of destruction, a force that has unleashed more misery than any other ideology in modern history. From the guillotines of the French Revolution to the gulags of the twentieth century, the Left has a bloody résumé that dwarfs the worst excesses of traditionalist regimes. Its unique evil lies not in its lofty promises, liberty, equality, progress, but in its unyielding drive to erase human nature itself, replacing organic life with a sterile, state-enforced utopia. Today, cloaked in the sanctimonious garb of "woke" ideology, Leftism continues its war on diversity, freedom, and the very essence of what makes us human.

Rockwell's case begins with history's stark ledger. The French Revolution, the Left's original sin, didn't just topple a monarchy; it sought to obliterate a millennium of French culture. Streets named for saints were rechristened, statues guillotined, the Christian calendar swapped for a "rational" one that erased Sunday. Priests were hunted, Rosaries outlawed, and dissenters drowned in the Loire for daring to cling to tradition. This wasn't reform; it was a fanatical quest to remake society from scratch, cooked up in the crazed minds of intellectuals who saw themselves as gods. The body count? A mere warm-up for the Leftist total wars and genocides of the twentieth century, which, as Joe Sobran quipped, made the Inquisition look like a quiet afternoon.

Fast forward to 2025, and the Left's obsession with "total transformation" persists. The modern guise is "diversity," but don't be fooled, this is uniformity in drag. As Rockwell and classical liberal Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn note, the Left despises true difference. It demands one ideology, one moral code, one approved way of thinking. Dissenters aren't debated; they're excommunicated. Look at the UK's political mess: Labour's Angela Rayner, caught dodging £40,000 in taxes, is lionized as a "major figure," while preaching equality. Universities, once bastions of free thought, now purge professors for questioning transgender orthodoxy or climate dogma. Social media mobs, millennials, the least tolerant generation per Elizabethtown College's April Kelly-Woessner, silence anyone who strays from the script. This isn't progress; it's a digital guillotine.

The Left's weapon is the total state, a leviathan that crushes the "little platoons" Burke championed: family, church, community. The French Revolution's departments, answerable only to Paris, set the template. Today, it's globalist mandates, DEI quotas, and progressive education that transfer loyalty from the local to the central. Schools don't teach kids to think; they teach them to obey, emancipating them from parents and tradition to worship the state. Kuehnelt-Leddihn's warning rings true: Leftism loves the "one": one language, one class, one flag. Even its "diversity" is a sham, demanding every institution mirror the same woke monoculture. A 2025 YouGov poll shows 62% of Britons think political correctness stifles speech, yet the Left doubles down, proving its absolutism is anything but relativistic.

The Nazis? Don't be fooled by the "Right-wing" label. As Rockwell and Kuehnelt-Leddihn point out, the National Socialist German Workers' Party was Leftist to its core, railing against "ecclesiastical, aristocratic, and capitalist privileges" while demanding a "democratic, social-minded German Reich." Its levelling spirit, anti-elite, anti-minority, pro-uniformity, mirrors today's woke crusades, where "equity" means forcing sameness, not fairness. The Left's permanent revolution, always chasing unattainable equality, requires constant state meddling, into jobs, schools, even private clubs. It's why they can't stop: every free exchange, every natural hierarchy, undoes their utopia. The result? A society where envy reigns, dissent dies, and the state is omnipresent.

The tragedy is that Leftism's evil isn't just its body count; it's its assault on humanity's essence. Humans thrive on difference, unique skills, cultures, beliefs. The Right, properly understood, defends this organic liberty, valuing tradition without worshipping it. Leftism, by contrast, sees diversity as a problem to be solved, not a strength to be celebrated. Its endgame is a world where everyone thinks, speaks, and lives the same, under the boot of a centralised power. And yet, the hatred flows only one way, toward the Right, branded as bigots while Leftists terrorise campuses and cancel careers unopposed.

Rockwell's warning is clear: Leftism isn't just anti-libertarian; it's anti-human. Until we reject its seductive lies, equality as sameness, progress as erasure, we risk a world where individuality is the final casualty. The good must fight, not flee. If we don't, the Left's revolution will leave us all in its ashes, equal only in our misery.
