Whether it's BBC talking heads hissing at the mention of Jesus Christ, an army of cokeheads, or a conservative banned from the country, the UK is on its last legs.
Long-time readers know that I was once a committed Anglophile and that I spent a very happy year in England as a college student. It's painful to watch a country I once respected and admired slide into decayed irrelevancy, but I can't turn my eyes away for two reasons:
First, of course, it's like watching a traffic accident. You know the outcome is going to be dreadful, but some part of you hopes that a last-minute miracle will occur. Second, this is where the Democrat party wants us to be. We need to know the destination it plans for us.
With that in mind, here's one of my periodic posts about the current political and cultural disasters that characterise the nation that, until slightly over 100 years ago, ruled almost one-quarter of the globe.
One. Geeta Guru-Murthy is a UK-born woman of Indian descent. In theory, she could have embraced English culture, but in fact, it seems as if she didn't. Instead, from her perch at the BBC, she seems decidedly hostile to one aspect of English culture, namely its Christian heritage, which goes back almost 2,000 years.
How do we know this? Because of the sound she made when interviewing a musician who admires Jesus Christ. That sound isn't a happy sound, although she quickly recovers. …
Two. In 1760, the British military was a colossus astride the world, having won the Seven Years' War, which was the first modern world war. Although Britain lost the American colonies not long after, it recovered its mojo in the early 19th century and went on to defeat Napoleon. Simultaneously, it conquered most of India, a conquest it completed in the mid-19th century.
- The mid-19th century also saw Britain subdue China and gain Hong Kong during the Opium Wars, check Russian expansionism in the Crimean War, defeat Persia in the Anglo-Persian War, and put down the Sepoy Mutiny in India. By the late 19th century, Britain was completing its conquest of Africa, defeating the Ashanti Empire, the Zulu Kingdom, Egyptian forces, and the Mahdi in Sudan.
However, by the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, Britain was losing its mojo. It technically won the Second Boer War, but at a tremendous cost. And of course, it wouldn't have won either WWI or WWII without America's support. Its men could still fight valiantly, but the age of empire was coming to an end.
By the time of the Iraq War, Britain was a participant but mostly an appendage. Again, some fought bravely, but an example of its decline comes from Scotland's once storied Black Watch, a stand-alone fighting unit that began in 1729 and soon became renowned for its men's courage and ferocity. The unit completely decomposed during the Iraq War, something that, in 2007, became the subject of a well-reviewed play that was seen as a true homage to the soldiers' spirit.
Fast forward almost 20 years, and this is what the British military has become:
Just before Christmas at the British Army's Catterick Garrison, a lonesome patch of North Yorkshire, soldiers of the Royal Engineers were examined, not for their bed-making skills or square-bashing precision, but drug-taking proficiency.
And, so it turned out, 23 of them failed urine tests and faced disciplinary action, having tested positive for cocaine.
The Engineer Regiment, which is part of the 7 Brigade, was, until recently, best known as "The Desert Rats" of the Second World War. Now, they have brought shame on their regiment and renewed meaning to the idea of marching powder.
"Cocaine is as common as beer", was the message told to The Telegraph this week by ex-squaddies and, given how difficult it is to recruit would-be soldiers, it seems likely that the 23 snorters will be given a reprieve.
Pathetic. Just pathetic.
That's why it's laughable to see the British huff and puff about Trump's newly-announced economic pressure to force Europe to stop fighting his plan to buy Greenland. The fact is that China, Russia, and America all want Greenland. The Europeans fear Russia but are too stupid to fear China. Instead, they focus obsessively on Trump.
The reality is that America is the only nation that can prevent that land from becoming a staging area for tyrants with their sights set on the entire Northern Hemisphere. Trump's right that we need to get Greenland, and the helpless, hapless, hopeless, and nostalgically militaristic Brits need to get over it.
Three. If you're from the Third World, have no money … you'll find a warm welcome in the UK, complete with free housing and a nice little budget. However, if you're Eva Vlaardingerbroek, a conservative Dutch woman, the UK will ban you from entry because "Your presence in the UK is not considered to be conducive to the public good."
By contrast:
The UK is no longer a "dead country walking." It's a dead country lying there, festering and rotting. Dear British people: If you want to salvage something and not become a Third World …communist hellhole, you have a very small window of time within which to act. And, dear Americans, this is what Democrats have planned for us. The midterm and 2028 elections need Republican majorities, or we will be following the UK.
