The Lidia Thorpe controversy has generated some real gems of wokeness. Pauline Hanson has questioned in parliament Senator Fatima Payman's legitimacy , the issue being the renouncement of her Afghan citizenship, which is impossible to do under the Taliban. This is a technical violation of the constitution. For Thorpe though, Hanson was attacking a person of colour, and persons of colour = good, Whites = bad; ""To question our legitimacy, and sister girl Fatima Payman's legitimacy… because Pauline Hanson has no legitimacy at all for being here."
We look forward to her losing her seat, at the election after the next one.
"Lidia Thorpe has accused colleagues of "censoring" her and allowing racism in the Senate after being suspended over a confrontation with Pauline Hanson.
The Indigenous senator addressed a crowd of protesters in front of Parliament House in Canberra following her extraordinary ban for the final sitting day of the year.
"I've got the day off today. I've been suspended, I've been censored," Thorpe said.
"And I wear those disciplinary colonial actions like a badge of honour."
Thorpe joined a rally on the last sitting day of parliament and said she would continue to fight for her private member's bill on genocide.
Her bill would strip Australia's attorney-general of the power to block the prosecution of genocide in courts if passed.
It was going to be introduced to the Senate today but will be paused until 2025 due to Thorpe's suspension.
"I am the mechanism, I am the body. Forget about Lidia Thorpe, I am guided by my ancestors, guided by my people," Thorpe said.
"My Senate spot belongs to my people. I won't stop until we get justice."
Thorpe said she refused to let "racists, convicted or not, tell me or any other Black or brown person in that place that we don't belong".
Thorpe was suspended for the rest of the year following an altercation with Pauline Hanson, who was accused of being racist by Senator Fatima Payman.
She appeared to throw papers towards Hanson and stormed out of the Senate with her middle finger raised at her colleagues.
"To question our legitimacy, and sister girl Fatima Payman's legitimacy… because Pauline Hanson has no legitimacy at all for being here," Thorpe continued in her speech.
"I asked her yesterday if she's paying the rent yet, and she was quite offended by that.
"I told her we're coming for her backyard and everyone else's backyards are safe."
Thorpe then described parliament as a "violent workplace" and said she was sick of working with "mainly white men in suits".
Earlier today, Thorpe interrupted Senate proceedings from the press gallery viewing window.
She yelled, "Free, free Palestine! From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free," while banned from the chamber.
That phrase has previously sparked controversy , with some Jewish groups describing it as antisemitic while Palestinian activists say it is a rallying cry for freedom.
The Senate has previously voted to condemn its use. "
