A new study from Austria delivers the final nail in the coffin of the old "diversity is our strength" fantasy. In Vienna, 41% of young Muslims believe Islamic religious laws (Sharia) take precedence over Austrian secular law. Nearly half of the next generation in one of Europe's great cultural capitals rejects the basic rules of the society their parents migrated into.
This isn't a "tiny minority" problem. It's the predictable, mathematically inevitable result of decades of mass migration combined with the deliberate abandonment of assimilation. The old liberal ideology — that newcomers would naturally adopt Western values through exposure, education, and time — is dead. Multiculturalism didn't enrich Europe. It imported parallel societies that refuse to integrate. The grim statistics prove it.
The Death of the Assimilation DreamFor generations, Western elites preached that Muslim immigrants would follow the same path as previous waves: Italians, Greeks, Poles, Vietnamese. Work hard, learn the language, respect the host culture, and your children would become fully Austrian (or French, Swedish, British, Australian).
Reality has been the opposite. Second and third generations in many European cities show higher rates of welfare dependency, crime, and cultural separatism than their parents. Vienna's data is just the latest confirmation:
Large majorities of young Muslims across Europe consistently poll in favour of Sharia elements, blasphemy laws, polygamy, religious courts, and supremacist attitudes toward non-believers.
Integration policies that emphasised "celebrating difference" instead of demanding conformity created enclaves where parallel legal and moral systems thrive.
Austrian authorities have watched no-go areas, grooming networks, and Islamist preaching expand while clinging to the multicultural dogma.
The ideology of multiculturalism actively discouraged assimilation. Teaching children that all cultures are equal (except Western culture, which is uniquely evil) guaranteed this outcome. Why integrate into a "racist, colonial" society when your own faith and community offer superiority and solidarity?
Europe's New Normal: Parallel SocietiesThis isn't limited to Vienna. Similar patterns appear in:
France's banlieues
Sweden's vulnerable areas
Britain's grooming gang hotspots
German cities with "imported clans"
When a significant portion of the youth population rejects the host nation's sovereignty, you don't have "diversity." You have conquest by migration. Demographic projections show native Europeans becoming minorities in their own major cities within decades. Combine that with birth rate differentials and refusal to assimilate, and the writing is on the wall.
Austrian politicians and media will no doubt call for more "dialogue," more funding for integration projects, and more crackdowns on "Islamophobia." None of it works when the imported population rejects the premise of integration itself.
Time to Admit the Experiment FailedMulticulturalism was always a utopian fantasy sold by people who never had to live with the consequences. It assumed all cultures are interchangeable. They are not. Some are compatible with Western liberty, individual rights, secular law, and women's equality. Others are not.
The old assimilation model wasn't "racist." It was common sense: countries have the right to preserve their culture, values, and way of life. Japan, South Korea, and Israel do it without apology. Europe used to as well.
The data from Vienna proves what critics have said for 20+ years: without strict borders, rapid deportation of criminals and rejects, mandatory cultural assimilation, and a dramatic slowdown (or pause) in immigration, Europe is sleepwalking into civilisational suicide.
But, Austrians, and Europeans across the continent, are waking up. Populist parties are rising precisely because reality has demolished the elite consensus. The question now is whether political leaders will act before Vienna (and Paris, Stockholm, London, etc.) become unrecognisable.
Multicultural diversity didn't enrich Europe. It ended the illusion of easy assimilation and exposed the fragility of Western societies that lost the will to defend themselves. Once more, a hard lesson for the West.
