The Left have adopted a radical gender agenda, now being implemented at the highest level by US false President Beijing Biden, as he is called by us, to deconstruct the concept of sex, much the same way race has been deconstructed. Thus, the binary concept of sex has been replaced by a non-binary plurality of sexes and genders; as far back as 2014, Facebook allowed users to choose from fifty gender options, more genders than flavours of ice-cream. Nature is not a given, but is a social construction, and one’s subjectivity determines what gender one chooses. Thus, men, as we conservatives define them, can feel that they are really women, and compete in women’s sport, and use women’s bathrooms.
Philosopher John Skalko, “How Many Sexes are There?” takes a logical jackhammer to this position of gender fluidity and subjectivity. It is true that there are intersex individuals and hermaphrodites with both male and female sex organs, and some genetically male individuals have incomplete female sex organs. But, does this show that there is no valid distinction between male and female? Is it like supplying a counter-example to the proposition that every natural number greater than 1 is either odd or even, Skalko’s example?
Skalko propose that the key to differentiation of the sexes is the question of reproduction. If we observe a species that does not require two organisms to genetically contribute DNA to create another organism, then we would say that that species is not sexed.
The argument is thus:
- Biological sex is defined relative to the roles in sexual reproduction.
- For humans, sexual reproduction involves two sexes, male and female.
Therefore,
- Biological sex for the human species involves only males and females.
The intersex person does not show that there are more than two sexes/genders. Skalko says: “When we discover a plant missing parts of its sexual organs, we do not thereby conclude that we have discovered a third gender. Rather, the biologists rightly concur that what you have found is a defective plant. Likewise, in human beings, when one has an extra chromosome, or defective genitalia, you have just that: a sexual defect at the physical level. Such people often may be wonderful, loving, and morally upright persons, but physically something has gone wrong.”
And what about hermaphroditism? “Hermaphroditism, rather than disproving, actually reinforces the traditional binary distinction. We would not even know hermaphrodites existed, let alone be able to speak of them, unless we knew of the male-female binary.”
I imagine that the response of the radical Leftoid would be to proclaim that depicting people as defective, or having defective organs, would be some sort of “hate,” “perfectionism,” and the argument therefore rejected. But, that is not reasoning, not that the Left cares.
