What are we to make of communist China's plans to build a type of Three Gorges Dam space-based solar plant? The mere mention of the word "solar" sets the tiny little cholesterol-laden hearts of Left-wing environmental academics a-flutter. Lang Lehao, a Chinese rocket said "The annual energy output from this system could surpass the total energy derived from all known global oil reserves." This then will have to be a massive construction, one kilometre in width, and will be positioned in geostationary orbit at an altitude of 36,000 kilometre above Earth.

It is one thing to build giant dams on the earth's surface, which keeps Chinese construction companies in business. But the space project will be of many magnitudes of difficulty. The chances of accidents in space will be higher than on earth. And once the station is complete, it will be in effect a massive orbiting meteorite, that if it develops a fault and falls from the sky, will wipe out any city beneath it.

I recall that back when Japan was having its 15 minutes of fame, in the late 1980s, mega-projects were all the go, but economic decline soon finished things like the Multifunction Polis (MFP) project, to build a Japanese mega-city in Australia, which failed and left Australia to pick up the debts. The same fate awaits imperialist China.

It is also among the few human-made structures visible from space. NASA previously reported that the dam's water weight has slightly altered Earth's rotation, slowing it by 0.06 microseconds. China's ambitious solar project reflects its broader commitment to energy innovation and sustainability. The South China Morning Post recently detailed the initiative, underscoring its potential to revolutionize energy collection and distribution on a global scale. Meanwhile, China is also moving forward with another colossal project—the construction of a massive dam on the Brahmaputra River near the Indian border in Tibet. Estimated to cost $137 billion, the dam is planned at a strategic point where the river enters Arunachal Pradesh in India. Once completed, it is expected to surpass the Three Gorges Dam in scale and capacity. Critics, however, have raised concerns over the geopolitical implications of the Brahmaputra River project. The dam could enable China to control water flow into India, raising fears of potential flooding in Indian territories during disputes."
