A “Christian” minister, Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis, made a recent tweet saying that “abortion access is holy and life-honoring.” Lewis, the senior minister at Middle Collegiate Church, claimed that abortion is a good thing to stop “forced births.” “Forcing people to give birth reveals such little respect for life and the wellbeing of everyone involved.”
The claims are profoundly unsound, as argued in detail below in a reply by Lifesite News.com. But, rather than go through the points, the most obvious objection comes from the Bible, that thou shall not kill. The unborn is not like an enemy soldier, home invader or anyone threating one; the foetus is most times, apart from rape, conceived by consenting sexual acts. In doing so, the actors should have the IQ to realise that a new life can be created. In doing so, they therefore assume moral responsibility for their actions, just as if ne was getting into a car and driving on the road. Apart from the special case of rape, here is simply no “forced birth” at all, so the basic points are unfounded.
“Another “Christian” pastor is once again claiming that killing babies in abortions is Biblical.
Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis took to Twitter the other day claiming that “abortion access is holy and life-honoring.” Lewis, the senior minister at Middle Collegiate Church, claimed that killing babies is a good thing to stopped “forced births.”
“Forcing people to give birth reveals such little respect for life and the wellbeing of everyone involved,” Lewis wrote. And she claims giving birth to unwanted children “harms many children who are born.”
“It harms folks who are forced to have a child against their wishes. Not to mention the folks who desperately need abortion care for medical crises,” she wrote.
“It harms doctors and the entire medical profession, forcing them to violate their vows by offering substandard care—making them second-guess decisions under threat of incarceration,” she said.
“And it harms many children who are born—dropping them into family systems where parents do not want children, or simply do not have the material means to care for them well in a country that’s simultaneously slashing every safety net,” she asserted.
“God calls us to create abundant life for everyone. That demands honoring people’s agency to choose whether they bring new life into the world. Abortion bans violate essential religious freedom. And they treat human beings like talking points, not folks made in God’s image,” Lewis concluded.
Lewis is completely wrong.
No one is forced to give birth. If you don’t want to give birth, don’t get pregnant.
She also missed the boat on abortion being medically necessary, as thousands upon thousands of doctors have confirmed over the years that that is false.
Killing babies violates the Hippocratic Oath to do no harm and killing their brothers and sisters harms children who are already born, depriving them of a loved one.
God says “Thou shalt not kill.” Unborn babies are people made in God’s image. He literally confirms He knows us in the womb and has plans for our lives. Abortion destroys that.”
