A new study breathlessly reported by Phys.org declares that "masculine behavior" is bad for the planet. Men's preferences for meat, cars, travel, and risk-taking supposedly drive climate change and environmental collapse. The solution, naturally, is to feminise men and redefine masculinity itself. This isn't science — it's ideological propaganda dressed up as research. And it's not just wrong. It's dangerously stupid.
The Modern World was Built by Masculinity
Let's start with reality. Every major advancement that lifted humanity out of poverty, disease, and starvation, was overwhelmingly driven by men exhibiting the very traits these academics now condemn:
Exploration and conquest: Men sailed into the unknown, mapped the globe, and extracted resources.
Engineering and industry: Men designed engines, bridges, power plants, and infrastructure.
Agriculture and energy: Men invented the Haber-Bosch process (feeding billions), drilled oil, built nuclear plants, and mechanised farming.
Innovation: The overwhelming majority of patents, scientific breakthroughs, and technological leaps came from men — often competitive, ambitious, and driven by status and provision.
The Industrial Revolution, the Green Revolution, modern medicine, electricity grids, sanitation systems — all products of "toxic" masculine traits: risk-taking, competition, stoicism, and a willingness to dominate nature rather than submit to it.
Without that masculine drive, we'd still be living in mud huts, dying at 30 from infected cuts, and watching half our children perish before adulthood. The comfortable, high-consumption lifestyle these researchers decry was created by the very behaviours they want to shame.
Woke Ideology is Anti-Human — and Anti-Planet
The real environmental threat isn't "masculinity." It's the anti-human, anti-progress ideology pushed by the same crowd writing these papers:
Degrowth and energy poverty: Opposing reliable, dense energy sources (coal, gas, nuclear) in favour of unreliable wind and solar keeps poor nations poor and forces everyone else into rationing.
Hostility to technology: Demonising cars, meat, air travel, and plastic while ignoring that innovation (often male-driven) has dramatically reduced pollution per capita in developed nations.
Attacking human flourishing: Telling men to be less ambitious, less competitive, and less provider-oriented doesn't save the planet — it creates demoralised, directionless societies that achieve less and consume less efficiently.
Countries with strong traditional masculinity (think post-war America, Japan's economic miracle, South Korea's rise) delivered explosive growth and environmental improvements through wealth and technology. Places that embraced radical gender deconstruction and degrowth fantasies lag behind.
Correlation is Not Causation — And Not a Reason to Castrate Culture
Yes, men on average have higher footprints in certain categories. They also commit more murders, die younger in workplace accidents, and dominate Nobel Prizes and Olympic records. Biology and psychology produce average differences. Shaming half the population for existing as men is not a climate policy — it's cultural self-sabotage.
Men's risk-taking built civilisation. The same impulse that drives some to drive big trucks also drives others to invent better batteries, more efficient engines, and carbon capture tech. Channel masculinity productively instead of pathologising it.
The Real Solution
If you actually care about the environment, embrace what works:
Abundant, cheap energy (including nuclear).
Technological innovation.
Economic growth that funds cleaner technology.
Realistic trade-offs instead of utopian fantasies.
Blaming "masculine behaviour" is a lazy, resentful distraction from hard choices. It's the same mindset that tells us meat is violence, cars are evil, and borders are racist — all while flying to climate conferences.
The modern world wasn't built by androgynous academics wringing their hands over gender norms. It was built by men acting like men. Attacking that foundation won't save the planet. It will just make everyone poorer, weaker, and colder in the dark.
Woke anti-masculinity isn't climate activism. It's civilisational self-harm.
