Nothing was proven about Brigitte Macron's birth sex. The July 2025 Paris Court of Appeal acquittal of Natacha Rey and Amandine Roy (the two women behind the 2021 YouTube video) was a ruling on French defamation/press law, not a finding that she was born male.

Rey and Roy were convicted at first instance in September 2024 of defaming Brigitte Macron and her brother Jean-Michel Trogneux. They were ordered to pay damages. On appeal the convictions were overturned. The appeals court held that:

Alleging someone is transgender or transitioned does not, by itself, constitute an attack on "honor or consideration" under French defamation law, so those statements were not defamation.

Other allegations (state lie, identity fraud, etc.) were made in "good faith" by people who believed they were pursuing a matter of public interest. Good faith is a recognized defence in French press cases.

The court noted inconsistencies and weaknesses in the women's "evidence" and that official civil-status documents contradicted their narrative. It did not endorse the claims as true. Reuters and other fact-checks explicitly state the court did not rule on her gender.

A later, separate January 2026 cyber-harassment case convicted 10 people for spreading the same claims in a malicious way. Courts in that proceeding treated the "born a man / Jean-Michel Trogneux" story as false.

Jean-Michel Trogneux is Brigitte Macron's (née Trogneux) actual older brother. He is a living person from the same Amiens chocolate-making family. Official records, family photos, her first marriage and three children, and her documented life as a teacher contradict the substitution/transition story. No court has found otherwise. The Macrons have a U.S. defamation suit against Candace Owens and have said they intend to introduce documentary and expert evidence there.

In short: the acquittal was a failure of the defamation claim under French speech-law standards (definition of harm + good-faith defence), not proof of the conspiracy theory. Videos framing the result as "the court confirmed she was born a man" misstate what was decided.
